My daughter's flight home left early this morning; we only get to see her once a year (twice if we're lucky). My husband drove her to the airport (wouldn't you know it finally snowed and the roads were a bit icy so they had to leave a little earlier).

When he came home from work he told me after she had gotten through security at the airport a song came on over the terminal speakers that always played on the radio in the car when she was in middle school. She would always say, "Oh Dad, that's your favorite singer." He said it was some song by Jewel. He said that she was going towards the gate and when she heard the song she turned around to find him and they just smiled at each other.

My husband got so choked up and it was tough for me to fight back the tears.

My son leaves tomorrow morning and then we'll be taking our youngest back to school. Seems like we wait all years for the holidays to see everyone and then in a blink of an eye its over. :bluesad:

Well, time to get planning for next year....... I think that means buying some fabric so that I can get a jump start?

Patty I know what you mean about missing the kids. Mine are all here except for the oldest and he's only 2 hours away but I still don't see him as often as I'd like to. I can't imagine living so far away and not getting to see them but once a year. I guess I'm one of those Mom's who hate letting go. I tell them all the time you'll be my babies when you are 70 if I'm still around. My oldest is 37 and my youngest is going to be 30 in June so they are grown men but they are still my babies.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Its always hard when they leave to go back. My daughter flys out in the afternoon tomorrow. I only get to see her once a year. Its been wonderful having her here. My son lives here and I love it. And now with a baby on the way , I love it more.

My youngest and her boyfriend were here for the holiday. The oldest has to do half her holidays with her husband's family -- and that's OK.
Anyway the youngest was supposed to go home yesterday but when I got home from work there they were.
I'm glad to have them, of course, but they are staying in my sewing room/office and..................
They live in New York -- about 4 or 5 hours from here (maybe less with the new Mini).

Susie......My children will always be my "kids" too. Their little idiosyncrasies trigger a memory of them as kids and it makes me chuckle.

Carolyn.....I doubt if any of my kids will live in this area; there just aren't any job opportunities in their field. It has been in an economic slump since we moved here in '78 and it hasn't improved in the last 28 years. I am just thankful my kids are enjoying their career paths.

Dorothy... There's no place like home Dorothy. I'm sure your daughter is loving every minute being in your sewing room......the hub of your home.

Well, my son left this morning and now I can concentrate on the youngest before she goes back to school. She is trying to get me hooked on Desperate Housewives and borrowed season 2 from her friends for me to watch.

I haven't watched Desperate Housewives, Patty, but it sounds like Skaneateles to me!
