Mary thank you for posting that article. It is very interesting. I have one of Claire Shaeffer's books -- Coutoure Sewing -- I think is the name of it. I've never heard of this lady but can really appreciate what she says about clothing and getting older. Patsy Patsy

What a treat.. Back in the 60's , I would go to the library and check out her book and keep it for the 2 week period, then renew it for 2 more.. (I could not afford to buy it) and I did not know she was still around.. I loved her books.. So easy to understand.. I might see if I can find the reissued 1985's version..She could make the technique so clear with her instructions..

How interesting! Thank you Mary for that article My Grandma is her age, how I wish she were able to do so. She was a fantastic seamstress but was too old to teach me anything when I started sewing. Ah well, there's always her inspiration - she used to make so many dresses for my mother. Isabelle

I checked my sewing library and found I have 2 books by Adele Margolis. I have Make Your Own Patterns, the 1985 edition, and an older How To Make Clothes That Fit And Flatter, copyright 1969. Both books have lots of illustrations to help explain techniques, much like many of today's books, but the styles ARE definitely from the era when the books where written. Very helpful for Fitting information. |
