If you have set yourself that resolution then be sure to keep an eye on the Contests and Challenges Board. As soon as I wrap up the current one I will be organizing a whole new type of Stash Challenge. I can't wait to get started!

Mine is definitely breeding - I've been having a mini stash challenge of my own but it's not getting any smaller - its increasing without any effort on my part (yet more unloved stash from others and gifts and freebies).

Soon my daughter will be the best dressed 8 yo in the neighbourhood. Too bad none of my fabric is boy stuff.

I told my daughter last week I wasn't buying yarn or fabric until I used what I had during the new year. Then we went shopping.... of course I bought 2 balls of crochet thread and a piece of fabric and thought I've blown my resolution already. Then I realized the new year hadn't started yet and I still had a couple of days to buy more fabric.:bg:
Now I will have to get serious about it:sick:

Happy New Year
May it be a year filled with fabric & sewing:smile:

This sounds like fun. I went out yesterday and bought all finds of baby fabric. Now I have taken over the guest room with fabric. My husband and son have decided I have had to wait too long for a grandchild. My son was so funny, he said does a baby really need all this stuff. I just looked at him and said you better start adding another room to your house.

Not me. I have no intention of reducing my stash. Even if I did resolve to it would not do any good.
A catalogue of swatches will come and I will buy.
When Hancocks closed it really cut down on my stash building -- but somehow I manage.

Each time I use up alot of my stash, it gives me a good excuse to buy more fabric. :bg: Especially when it's on sale!

[B][I]No way, I'll use it all up in 20 or 30 years. I should live so long!!! LOL.

I haven't added much to my stash during the last two years (spent all my time going to graduate school...no time for fabric shopping).

Went in the sewing room last week and decided that about half the stash really needs to go away. Doesn't fit my needs anymore....or I bought it for my daughter back when she would wear color (now we're all about black).

Thankfully, I've become friends with a young woman (12 years old) who is learning to sew. She's been on the receiving end of quite a bit of stuff lately. I'm glad to give it to her. She's turning out to be a great little seamstress. Puts me to shame.

So, in answer to the question about trimming down my stash...the answer is NO....I'm looking for ways to increase and update mine!

I kick started my resolution with $28 worth of retail therapy at Hancock Fabrics on Dec. 30! Vogue patterns were 75% off and I got 9 yards of some beautiful turquoise fabric. It's a start!

I was going to finish all my UFO's quilts this winter. Well, now that a baby is on the way. They have to wait again. But that would be a great challenge.

Ok. I joined the last stash challenge, but didn't get very far. Used only 10.75 yards. Had plans to use approximately 35-40 yards. Instead I spent time at Joanne's and such and now have added to the stash by 30 yards or more!

If you do a challenge, can I suggest you increase the length of time for the contest for those of us who can only sew in the evening and on weekends?

lsoutherla,

Yes you may suggest it, but I was already gonna do it.:bg: How long were you thinking?

UFO Challenge. HMMMM! Do you want a UFO only challenge or do you want me to include them in this next stash challenge?

Smart women think alike, Gina. The last challenge was around 1.5 months, right (started around 11/17, I think)? How about 2 months? Or even a quarterly challenge - 3 months? The things that I like to sew (compounded with the fact that I work) make it difficult to get a quick turn around when I sew. I also think a couple of weeks notice to everyone to get ready and submit an "application" (so to speak) is a good idea.

I like the idea of a more defined challenge, i.e., counting fabric (counting yards?), plans, etc. Maybe only a certain percentage of yardage could be simple items (blankets, scarves, etc.). I also think a UFO challenge should be separate from a stash challenge.

Do you want/need help, Gina, getting prizes, or, heck, let's go big, even sponsors? Let me know if I can help you.

I am tweaking out the finer points of this next challenge. I should have it posted within the next few days. Keep an eye on the Contest and Challenge Board for the post.
I will tell you that I plan to give you the month of January to get your stash together, yardage counted, and sorted. If you can, take pics of your stash all in one place. I am trying to see if I can set up a photo album where you all can add your own pictures. I had a heck of a time keeping track last time as a lot of your e-mails kept getting sent to my junk e-mail.
