Is there a way to calculate how many ounces of yarn to make an afghan? My DDs got those nifty Knitters for Christmas & DGSs have asked for blankets (probably twin size) We have no idea how much yarn to buy.

Are you buying an afghan pattern? It usually tells you on the pattern....If not buying one why not just check on the yarn band.often times they have a free pattern on the side for an Afghan...

I noticed the other day that Walmart had a book, not the pamphlet, for the niffty knitter. I didn't stop and look to see what was in it as I don't own one. I would imagine it would have afghan patterns. The amount of yarn required to knit an afghan depends on the size of the blanket, size yarn-baby, sport, worsted, jiffy, etc.and the gauge you knit at. I don't know if there is a set gauge for these knitters or not. I do know the lion brand site does have patterns for the niffty knitters but not sure what they are for. It's the free pattern site.

I saw only a couple of hat and scarf patterns to use with the knifty nitter.

Thank You all! I saved the sites for DDs. I think they may just make some squares or rectangles & then stitch them together when they are done.
