I started a biscuit quilt a little over a week ago and finished it this morning. It is a baby quilt for my son-in-law's aunt who is expecting in Feb. This is the first quilt I've made and really enjoyed it. Ok, I'm not sure what's happening since I attached a thumbnail picture that can be clicked for a bigger picture and it's showing up when I look at the thread. But we'll try the url and hope it works Carol http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g59/cshortcrochet/2007/babybiscuitquilt-Jan.jpg cshortsew

Worked perfectly! How adorable. I love the colors. This should really encourage you to do more. What makes it a "Biscuit Quilt"?? Lennie |

Hi Carol! you should be proud of that masterpiece! it is adorable and like Lennie I love the colors! I am curious as to what makes is a biscuit quilt too. It looks like one my mom has made and she called it a shag quilt or something like that. Jane "A trip to the fabric store is my therapy"

Great job on the quilt... keep it up - quilting is addictive in a good way. Years ago, we made "biscuit" quilts and they got their name because you made the square, front and back, left a small opening and stuffed it with batting like a pillow, then sewed the squares together. Of course, I don't know if this is the construction method used here. |

flaquilter - yes, I certainly remember that "fad".......it was a fad wasn't it? We made them in the early '70's.... Only problem was that if you wadded cotton into each opening rather than a poly filling.....when you washed it you no longer had biscuits, but little lumpy clumps that shifted to one side of the square. Maybe that is why there aren't many still around as many made their way to the dump. Patty

Thanks everyone for the compliments and encouragement. This was made similar to how flaquilter explained except instead of stuffing each square I attached batting to the backing of each square, then stiched on the top square and put all the squares together. I saw some at a craft show a couple of months ago and then found at book at Joann's so I had to try it As for my next project....I'm putting the lining in a crocheted purse that was a UFO and I started a dress for the grandbaby yesterday, just need to slipstich the facing down and hem it. Too bad I have to go back to work next week, I could really get through my stash if I stayed home more. Carol cshortsew

Oh my gosh... I think My MOM made a "biscuit" quilt in the seventies and used old knee high nylon stockings for the stuffing. I remember having picnics on it when we were younger. Wow...what a cool memory! NOW I know what you are talking about! "A trip to the fabric store is my therapy"
