Thanks to Jeanette, I bought a copy of Couture Sewing Techniques by Claire B. Shaeffer. It is so interesting. Not only does she give instructions, tips and pointers on sewing couture but she gives you the inside peek at how the designer workrooms are set up, the different jobs each person is to perform and how things go from muslin to magnificent. I LOVE this book.

I read it every chance I get. Her diagrams are very clear. She has pages of hand sewing techniques and when each one is used. Yeah I know, it's an oldie now but worth every penny to me.

Thank you for mentioning that book Mary!

I just got a fabulous book on formal sewing too: Bridal Couture, by Susan Khalje (http://www.susankhalje.com/books.htm). Simply awesome. The pictures of her dresses are fabulous and she explains each and every step in sewing a bridal/formal dress. A real treat

I have that Susan Khalje book, too, Isabelle.
Isn't it wonderful? It really helped me so much when I made my dgd's wedding gown. I'll post some pics of that dress in a new thread.

You did such a wonderful job with that dress, Sandy, and I'm glad to hear the book helped you achieve that great result

I realized the book has a foreword by Claire Shaeffer! Small world

Thank you, Isabelle. I appreciate the compliment.

I didn't realize Claire Shaeffer wrote the forward in the Bridal Couture book. I'm going to have to check that out!
