Hi and welcome to Sew Whats New. Interesting username. I have never tried underwear but I know of a local group here that sew them for women shelters.

HI I have tried making my own underwear, with mixed results I must admit. I used a kwik sew pattern, and thought I would do the right thing and actually use the pattern for a change! Hmmmmm.. I dont think I will do that again for awhile. I ended up with a pair of knickers that were big enough to use para-sailing! But after a bit of adjustment - mainly to the overall length - I ended up with very comfy knickers that didn't cost a fortune. The kwik sew pattern shows you how to use the "lacy" lingerie elastic, and plain elastic. Both were really easy to do, but I found I had the best results with the rubber type elastic used in a lot of commercial knickers. But that was mainly because I never seem to be able to catch the lacy elastic properly to stop it unravelling after a couple of washes. Knickers are a bit scary at first, but once you get the hang of them you will never go back to store bought ones. Now I just have to get around to trying to make some bras to match. Cheers, Soph.
I'm happiest when I am sewing! |
