Our younger son who is currently doing a year on a working holiday visa in Europe asked his sweetie to marry him. We are so excited. She is adorable, and she loves to sew and garden, she's perfect!!! They had hotel reservations across from the Eiffel Tower, got there and found out they were overbooked so they upgraded them to their sister hotel down the street into a beeeaaauuutiful suite for the night. He said he's never been in such a beautiful place and a beautiful city, he just couldn't help himself and popped the question. (Course she had already emailed me and told me she had a killer dress for the evening as well). Wedding is summer 2009. No ring yet, he's waiting til they get back to England, where he can speak the language!!!

Congratulations - sounds like you're not losing the son but gaining a daughter as the old saying goes. It's great that you have common interests with your future DIL (and you obviously get along well if she is emailing you).

What a romantic fellow your son sounds - give yourself a pat on the back (and your husband too) - you must have done a good job with him.

When are you changing your id to Groomsmom? Are you going to help with the dress?

The kids arrived home this past weekend and were over for supper last night. She is sporting a lovely solitare diamond.
She's planning on making her dress and wants to make it at my house!!!!!!!! So I need a new machine for this - definitely!!! Her dress idea is lovely, wants it in an antique ivory undergown with a lace overlay, spagetti straps and a slight scoop neckline, very small train. She came up with the idea, we don't have a pattern, or anything, but I do remember a dress that is quite similar to what she wants when my own daughter was looking at dresses. It's a Sept wedding, not sure if this year or next yet. Color is deep forest green for the bridesmaids, in very similar style dresses. We are going to head down to Seattle for fabric shopping in the next month to see what we can find.

Sounds like she's a keeper! Keep us up to date on details as they arise.

How lucky are you that you now have the perfect excuse for a new machine. It's not an indulgence - but a necessity - one might even say an investment. Good timing.
