When you say "pieced fan", I'm not sure whether you want a paper pieced fan pattern or an appliqué fan pattern. So I googled and found these. Hope they help. Thanks for the info Judee. I made one a few years ago but have moved since so I can't find the pattern. It is just a blocked pieced together, not paper piece. Grandma's Attic Quilting has just what I need. Thanks bunches. ruthie |

May I add my HO ?? I think the fan would be much prettier if you made the 4 pieces into 7 instead.. .. The Fan quilt that my GM made when I was a child (now it is my dearest possession) has 7 fan blades in it.. and it is a wonderful quilt.. She pieced the fans on point in rows , not in blocks with borders.. I took it to a quilting class once, and the instructors were amazed at the way the quilt top was put together . It is a scrap quilt, except the base of every fan matches the quilt back, a solid blue polished cotton fabric.. The scraps include many, many pieces of feed sack prints... Was made in the 40's because she passed away in 1947..

Hope there is someone in your family who will appreciate it as much as you do when you are ready to pass it down. TTFN from

I have 28 fan blocks finished that have 8 blades in each fan that are then stitched to a bottom piece and then appliqued onto a block. The pattern is in a book called Patchwork for All Seasons by Leisure Arts. As soon as I have time, I'll take some pictures and post them to my yahoo picture site. Patsy Patsy

Good morning Ladies, I have some wonderful fan blocks I inherited, only they are put together as circles. I'll scan a pic as soon as I can. They appear to be the dresdan plate pattern and all of 40's fabrics. What pattern would you use to machine quilt it? Meandering? Thanks for any suggestions. Have a great day. |

Hello All...I'm new to this site and just wanted to introduce myself. I've been quilting about 5 or 6 years and am mostly self taught. I've made some happy mistakes that taught me alot! Right now I'm working on a blue jean quilt. I was dreading making 500 6 inch circles by hand and then I went to Hancock Fabrics and they saved me! They have a circular rotary cutter that works very well. I'm also doing a BOM from Whims called Rachels Cat Garden. I like to have several things going at one time so I can trade off! What is everyone working on these days? Have a happy day. Mira in cold, with snow in the forecast Nebraska |

Mira.....Dale Flemings has a method of sewing circles using the sewing machine. It is amazing and takes about seven minutes, start to finish, to complete one circle. This might help you with the blue jean quilt. http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/cr_quilting_instructions/article/0,1789,HGTV_3302_4302936,00.html Where in Nebraska do you live? Jeke, I have a set of the John Flynn templates and they are WONDERFUL! Patty

Good Morning Mira, I am working on my calendar quilt. I was doing sun bonnett sue but lost 12 finished blocks some where in this world. I'm afraid my precious ds thought the bag was trash. He's special needs and sometimes gets ahead of me doing chores. I will have to check out the circle cutter. Have a great day. Gena |

Another idea could be to do feathers around it, either inside or on the outside. Sorry to hear about your lost blocks! Hope they pop up somewhere. TTFN from
