Hello, has anyone sewed those fabric bowls? I have tried to make some Kleenex covers and am having fits with it. I don't know if my Timtex is too stiff for my machine, or the combination of that and wonder under.. .
I am constantly breaking thread, and it just won't sew the zig zag stitch good. I have changed needles numerous times, going from a 14 to a 16 back to a 11.. with no luck for any. Any help is much appreciated. Oh btw my machine is a Brother ULT2003D. if that matters. Hope someone has some pointers for me. Thanks:bang: :bang: :bang:

I made a vase that was satin stitched on the edges and glued. That was with Timtex and my Pfaff had no problem with the satin edge stitching.
I made a bowl but I used a heavy batting instead of Timtex and again my machine had no problems going through all the layers.
Maybe you could try a couple layers of very heavy interfacing instead of the Timtex which is stiff and awkward to work with.
Could be pulling on the bowl as you are sewing? It is kind of hard not to with that stiff stuff in there.

I made fabric bowls, but with an interfacing that was fusible on both sides(instead of using Timtex and wonder-under). I found it worked really well. The info on the bolt says it is for fabric bowls and crafts.
Take care,

I used the double sided fusible also but I'll never make another one of those bowls! It was frustrating, used copius amounts of thread and was very difficult to get the satin edges to look as pretty as they should. Was not worth the bother to me.

It does use a lot of thread!
But I didn't have any problem with the satin stitching. A few years ago my husband bought me a generic foot for edge stitching. He had no idea what it was, but I think a sales person or someone told him "She will love it and use it all the time."
I've used it maybe three or four times but it works pretty good when I remember I have it.

Sewhappyrtr, did you try rethreading your machine? Sometimes, when the thread is breaking, it is because it is getting caught up on something along the thread path, or on the spool itself. The resulting pulling on the thread would also cause poor stitch quality.
Take care,
Donna

Yes, I have rethreaded my machine multiple times..and even looked again on the machine help to make sure I was threading it correctly. Well,, I finally gave in and went to the local Brother dealer and purchased Brother bobbins to use and more needles.. and I guess the bobbin was the trick.. The bobbins I had been using came from Joann fabrics and said they were for the Brother machine.. guess not.. course on regular sewing they worked just fine... go figure:yawn:

I'm not sure I would want to tackle Timtex without a work horse kind of machine. Mine is about as tough as the come and at first I was a little nervous.

I have made several of the bowls using the timtex and didn't have any trouble. I just went slow.
