The holidays are over and --even if the weather is mild this year -- it is nice to be in the sewing room so here's that question --- Whatca makin? What was the last thing you finished? What are you working on? What is next? I finished a coat a couple weeks ago but, and I'm not complaining, I haven't had much chance to wear it. Today I am finishing a light weight jacket to go with a pair of pants I made just before I made the coat. I got some great ceramic buttons that look like quilt blocks to liven it up. Then I think I will just make some more pants and a top. But I have some great fabric with hula dancers and $20 worth of very cool hula dancer buttons for my son-in-law. It's the kinda of shirt that made my daughter say "MOM DON'T!! He'll wear it in public!" Dorothy |

Just finished serging the edge a bunch of flannel backed vinyl to make tablecloths. I have fabric washed and waiting to be ironed for a twirl skirt for my daughter. Next in line is my blocks for the red and white swap. I think the blocks and the skirt may change places so Patty doesn't worry about me getting done in time. We'll see.

I suddenly have a miraculous stash and so am making my red and gold asian fabric quilt I have wanted to do for some time - In fact I am so carried away I am making a matching hanging to go above the bed at the same time. I am using contemproy patterns ( sort of lots of squares of different sizes with gold chop sticks on the top) and I am having a blast! Tony is out at a church leaders meeting on Tuesday so I am planning a mega sew after Science Club. I did make a sort of crossover tunic top in red but it didn;t turn out as well as I expected - I think due to the fact that I have some extra poundage about the middle - so New Year sees me eating less as well - darn. love and kisses, Jan

Whatca makin? What was the last thing you finished? Yesterday I finished a custom doggy jacket for an old pup that can't stay warm. It was bonded sherpa fleece to denim and turned out looking like those Levi's jackets. Very cute with his name and a bone emb. on it. What are you working on? I am currently working on embroidering 30+ straps for the fire dept. These are straps for the ambulance personnel that hold patients onto the backboards for transport. These straps tend to "disappear" when other agencies are around so it's important to identify them. I've done a lot of work for the dept. and not taken money. It's a conflict of interest since dh is the chief. These I am getting paid to do since dh is totally staying out of it and theoretically knows nothing about it since I'm dealing with the paramedics on this one. What is next? Hopefully I'll have some time to make something for myself which I haven't done in AGES. I do have more championship banners to make for the high school. I asked them if I could wait with that till after the holidays. I also absolutely have to get my machine in to be cleaned and tuned up. I just can't see being without it for 2 weeks. Lennie |

I am working on my resolution to shop in the stash this past 8 days I have quilted a quilt throw, made a sleeveless cotton shirt (summer here - or supposed to be), jean style jacket dark nave pleather, a dress and drafted yet another pant pattern to try and get a good fit around the backside - and yipee I am making progress What worked for me is Burda pattern and Nancy Z pivot and slide method with some modifications - how sad to get so...o excited about pants that look halfway decent Next project a hot pink silk fabric that has been suitably aged in the stash - jean style. I made a black embroidered taffetta one in Novemeber and get lots a positive comments about it. You know relaxed but still smart style great for work. I have another quilt top which has been waiting for 18 months to get quilted I have finally decided what I am going to quilt so it is all go here - PS I am on holiday but DH is off this coming week so probably wont get much done unless I "encourage" him to play golf |

What was the last thing you finished? I made my daughter a skirt (blue velvet with silver glitter stars) and white top for Christmas, some shorts, pedalpushers, shrug and tshirt (all with some flower camoglage print included so they co-ordinate), a pair of 3/4 pants (Blue hibibscus print drill) and a white tank top. What are you working on? Curtains and pelmet covers for our caravan - been waiting for ages for the fabric I liked to come on sale - if I'd bought it when I first saw it the cost would have been $200 or more - I got it on sale for about $60. (11 metres of thermal print for curtains and 2 metres of thermal for the pelmet covers). What is next? Beach ponchos for the kids for our beach holiday (towel folded lengthwise with a hood so it goes over their heads like a poncho). Then probably a few skirts for me to help get me through some of the really hot weather and until I lose a few of the post Christmas extra kilos. Pauline

Last finished was 8 reversible placements that I gave to my cousin for Christmas. Still working on quilting my advent quilt...just the tree block left to quilt. I've made my test block...which turned out OK and is the first of 14 that I have to make for the Red, White & U block swap. Have two blocks semi done and 2 more cut. 10 more to go. Next in line after the advent quilt and the RW&U block swap is to make my cousin a reversible table runner to match the placemats that I gave her. Then it is to put together the 4 UFO quilts that I have! TTFN from

last thing finished: two fleece robes for my DH and Dad. (I'd never worked with fleece before.) What seems like a zillion PJ bottoms, five no-sew kiddie scarves out of a fun fleece, top for me, two pillows for self with trim that had to be hand sewn before piecing the front to back. What am I working on: two striped bar stool cushions out of a faux suede for a client (a quicky that is turning into a pain!) and a 3/4 length cape with hood out of a wool for myself. A pattern I bought over 15 years ago - another purchase I'm sure I just had to have. What is next: come h*&^ or high water I'm making the duvet cover and London shades for my bedroom. (I purchased this fabric months ago! Then I need to recover one more chair and the bedroom is done.) I keep putting this off tho, I'm sure I'll screw it up somehow. But, I'll probably make a couple of receiving blankets for my first grandbaby to come - baby bubba (until we know if it's a he or a she). One for DIL to take, one to stay here at my home. After that , well, I could go on and on.... dress for DD, dress for self, 2 pair o' pants, jacket, etc., etc., etc... |

Just finished: Queen-size patriotic quilt for oldest son who just moved away from home, monogrammed towels for brother and SIL, embroidered towel set for friend for Hanukkah (sp?), set of embroidered hand towels for my kitchen, tons of tote bags, lace bookmarks and gift tags for craft sales. Working on: finishing a patriotic quilt started last April and designing and putting together new sewing studio recently vacated by one 23 YOS! Next: Curtains for new sewing studio, curtains for master bedroom, fleece swing coat, couple of skirts for work, and I'm sure I'll find plenty of other things to do that will keep me in the sewing room! Just finished 3 ufo's that have been making me crazy. Made a jacket which was too tight at the hips, so had to add pieces at the sides. Have one more quilted vest ufo to finish then will be doing a t-shirt quilt for my son. Then my turn. I have lots of fabric for stuff for myself, slacks and some nice tops. Then it will be spring.

I cut out a robe for myself. I had two pieces of blue flannel. Neither one was enough so I am combining them. I will have a blue plaid robe with bunnies on the lapel, cuffs and pockets. It is very straightforward. I still have a ways to go in my SWAP wardrobe.

I just finished Easy Stitch and Save by McCalls M5161. I think I may have put the sleeves in backwards so I think I am taking them out today. Would putting the sleeve in backwards make the arm hole feel slightly tight. The fabric is a Crepe red with black Cherry Blossoms. Next I am going to try Easy Stitch and Save by McCalls M5163. But I have to find a good fabric. I am doing Easy Stitch and Save by McCalls Because those patterns are available locally. Sher My website

This is what I just finished last night. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v425/LauraBC/Sewing/?action=view¤t=Christmas06043.jpg It's a quilt for my 27yr old son made out of old t-shirts of his. I was supposed to interface each tshirt with a fusi-knit interfacing but I decided to try it without. It was a little tricky sewing the different types of knits together, but it worked. He only saw the finished quilt top, I hadn't done the fill and backing yet, so that will be delivered tomorrow, he was pretty excited about it. Laura

What was the last thing you finished? New shower curtain for Winter. It was time to take down Christmas but I wasn't ready for spring so I made a blue shower curtain with snow flakes for winter. I got the fabric at Walmart $1.74 yd. 60" wide so it takes about 2 yds. I will post a picture when I get 1 taken. What are you working on? I was getting ready to cut out some sleep shorts for DS but I had to wash the fabric so I started cutting out a Raggedy Ann doll for a shower present for DDs friend on Feb. 10. I haven't made one in years so I hope I can still get it right. What is next? The sleep shorts & some presents for DDs baby shower. New pj pants for DGSs. Maybe some new tops for myself. Barb

Yes, I do make button hole. You can buy large grommets(sp) to use in place of them or make tabs & use velcro to hold them in place. My DD called last night to see if I would make her a black shower curtain. They are redoing their bathroom & decided on blak & white for the colors.

I'm making a "wearable muslin". I have some nice silk I would like to make a blouse out of... but I don't have a lot of the fabric so I'm making the pattern first out of a black crepe with beige flowers (sounds awful but really is not that bad) that I have had for eons. So if it works the first time I'll have 2 new blouses and if not I didn't trash my silk Jeanette

So my wonderful teenage DD had to have style B of Simplicity 4072. She picked the fabric out - a textured black with bronze stripes cotton/lycra and a brown for the trim. I started before Christmas, finished the bodice/sleeves; she tried it on and proclaimed "love it!" Put it aside for Christmas projects and picked it back up to finish it over the past weekend. She tries it on and before I can even finish tying the tie I hear "I don't like the sleeves, and it's too heavy. I just don't like it." Say what?! It's a good thing I love her! Laura |

I agree with Jeanette, leave it for a bit, then show it to her again. I had forgotten I did that more than once with my girls. My robe is almost done. Why in heavens name did I decide to do flat felled seams? Takes forever but I should be done tomorrow. Just have to add cuffs to the sleeves and hem along with some hand sewing around the neck edge. Then on to some quick sewing fixes, yeah. A couple of knit tops for my SWAP. MaryW

Just finished, my red and white blocks, a Yoda fleece blanket for son's birthday (that was last week), and I finally sewed-up some comfy things for my puppies cage. The fleece blanket turned out pretty cool. I did one layer black and the other Yoda. Instead of tying it I zig-zagged around the blanket about two and a half inches from the edge, then cut the fringe up to that line. He loves it! The dog refuses to come out of her cage now. She loves the pad and pillows I made for her. Now I am working on a twirl skirt for DD #1. Next I have some more fleece blankets to finish and buttons to sew on some PJ's for DD #2 that I sewed before Christmas. Actually the PJ's just moved up to now. The poor girl needs something to cheer her up today. Gina

Well let me see......................I made a dress for my granddaughter, I helped a neighbor make a Spanish dress for her daughter who is a queen for one of the festivals here in Louisiana for one of the competitions she will take part in, I'm working on a table runner that is not quite finished, and today we started the Dear Jane blocks at the quilt shop I'm going to now. Next will be a banner for the neighbor to put on the hotel door announcing her queens title at the hotel all the queens are staying in next week. I'm also looking forward to making ME some things I need for my sping wardrobe. Since I've lost most of the weight I've put on since the storm I can feel good in sun dresses again. I think I'll make some of those for sping. I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

I've been away for a few days but I have to say Laura what a great job with the Tshirt quilt. I have heard of them but didn't really think I'd like them. I constantly fight my hoarders impulse but find it really difficult to throw out the kids old clothes (some of them anyway). Now I know something I can do with them. Yay. Pauline

I am finally done my flannel robe. I will never do flat fell seams again for a very looooooooooong time. It takes so long. Anyway, it's done. I will post a pic later. Now, on to some tops for myself.

Just finished: Making a set of swaggy window treatments for the living room from a deep burgundy silk and gold brocaded material. They look awesome together! Also did a tablecloth/runner set in deep burgundy/gold shantung. Works well with my gold-trimmed china! Working on: A long skirt for myself. Cut out - now just have to get in there and line and sew it. Hopefully my new dressform, Druscilla, can help me there, once she arrives. Next: More stuff for MYSELF!! I get really depressed when I think of the wardrobe I could have, if only I'd put aside the time to sew!! Happy sewing, everyone!! Bev
