Well, I got my first plants in the ground today at our new house. I've been about to die to start fixing up the yard but we're far away from the last frost..however I did put some pretty pansies in the yard today and 2 daffodil plants in the little bed beside the garage. I am so excited! It's been in the 70's here (however the rain is moving in tomorrow) and I just couldn't stand it any longer! It's a good feeling..
Next week I start on the valances for the house. I have the fabric for the dining room and have to find a liner fabric for the breakfast room..nothing yet for the living room nor the bedrooms. I want a new comforter for our room so I am gonna wait until I pick that out to start looking for valance fabric.
Not anything important--just wanted so share my excitement. It's been a LONG time since I've had a yard to mess around in!

Julie, I'm glad someone other than me was outside in the dirt yesterday. I bought my pansies somewhere after T-giving and have just put off putting them in the ground. I'm hoping a heavy mulch will keep them warm and allow the roots to take. Gardening is my other passion. We should talk! (I'm in Douglasville, outside of Atlanta). If you come into Atlanta, there are several wonderful upholstery stores off of Howell Mill Rd. One can spend all day there. Your excitement is contagious.....

Laura--I would LOVE to come shop at that store! I am sure I would get in trouble for spending too much $$ though LOL!!! I'm not far from Atlanta (only about an hour and 15 minutes or so.) I'm hoping mine will be OK too. I added some pansy food for them and watered them really good and added pine straw around them so keeping fingers crossed. At any rate, I had fun!
Ice??? YIKES! You guys stay safe. We're supposed to get rain and then it's supposed to be cold tomorrow. I'm planning on lighting a fire tomorrow and sewing ...we are going to visit a preschool (maybe 2 of them) so we can decide which one we want Sarah in tomorrow or Wednesday..depends on the whether. Most registrations are in Feb around here.
Laura-are you on the north or south side of Atlanta?

Oh my gosh - daffodils and pansies - two of my favorites. I can't event think about any of that until May! I am glad for sunshine today, but the roads are still icy. We might be to 35 on Friday. That's a 55 degree change since last Friday :)

Jeke--you guys in all that ice be CAREFUL...we rarely get that down here but when we do it's mass chaos. I guess the last ice we got was 2 years ago (at the end of Jan coincidentally.) My husband was in the field and so that day the little one and I went and ran our errands early and it seems like we went to the mall too but I can't remember specifically..nonetheless, we got our grocery shopping and all done before it got icky. That next morning, the power was off all day long and about the time I was about to load everyone up and go down to my parents house (about an hour away) who had power (READ: heat) it all came back on. The problem around here are the power lines and people seem to want to get out and drive in that crap..don't know why. I am a chicken I guess..that ice on the road scares me.

Julie, we're on the west side of Atlanta. D'ville is properly off of I-20 (past 6-Flags), but our home is 10 mins north of Union City off of 85 south. We go down to Columbus for soccer tournaments.

I'm not a cold weather fan. We've been fortunate thus far with the weather this winter. Mostly in the 60-70's and nights in the 50's. In fact, one recent morning I heard the weather announcer say it was a bone chilling 45. Too funny. I cannot comprehend some of the temps that I read about on this board. I remember several years ago we had an ice storm and were house bound for a couple of days. We ran out of Coca Cola and my DH and son walked to the local quick-mart to buy some. Got to have my Coke!

hehehe--I'm the same way about my Diet Pepsi!! I remember that ice storm. I think you guys had it worse than us but you know how it is down here..a little ice cripples the whole area..
You guys in the hard hit ice areas, PLEASE stay safe (and warm.) Sending you lots of hugs :)
