I mean a paper journal, not a blog. Something to remind you of what you have sewn, for who and maybe a fabric swatch. I am thinking of doing one. With the SWAP challenge ongoing, it might be a good time to start.

Not for personal items but when I was sewing professionally I did this, took pictures, etc. I kept a photo album/scrapbook handy to show people who interviewed me for hire. I also would hang special garments that I had made the children around the room or on a rack so they could see/touch some of my work in person.

I used to but kinda dropped it. If I really like something I still take a photo.

I don't do as often, but would write down info on a garment I'd made on a 3x5 card and put into the pattern envelope with a scrap of fabric.

I've taken pictures of my sewing and crocheting off and on for years and kept them in an album. I just started a journal recently.

No but I should - I always forget to take notes of the different things I do to alter a garment - extra length, changed neckline etc. so I sometimes have to go through the same exercise twice (or worse end up with something I'm not happy with that could easily have been avoided).

I also HAVE to start a projects ideas book. I have so many projects going through my head - I know I'll never get them all done but I have some pretty good ideas sometimes and then forget what they were.

I do tend to make notes right on the pattern of changes I make. I'd never think to look if I kept them separate.

I don't keep a paper journal but I do take pictures of what I make and usually write on the back who it was for. I often put a small fabric swatch on the envelope to show what I used.

I have a sewing journal. I bought a little coil rimmed hard cover book from the dollar store and I write down everything I sew. I also have a swatch of the material neatly cut into a small square and taped iinto the book. I record who I made it for, the date, pattern name and size. I also have a small photo album for all of my machine embroidery pictures. I do a lot of pillows for gifts and I keep pix's for people to see what I have done.
I think I'll start taking pix's of the clothes that I make also. kew alias buttons.

I do on the items I make for the grandkids. I put down pattern number, what size I made, fabric used and any alterations I did. When DD calls to tell me how each outfit fit, I'll have some idea what to do with the next one, or if there will be a next one. It is hard to sew for the grands when they don't even live in the same state and DD isn't consistent in sending measurements.

I should too. Specially good time to do it now that I am just starting out! :) Thanks for the good idea Mary!

I keep a hard cover spiral bound book, which i guess is like a journal. It is red so I can find it where-ever it gets lost. :re: I sit down with it approx. once a week, and list all of the items I want to sew (or have to like mending.) It is about the only way I prioritize what needs to be done. I will write down any new ideas / patterns / measurements which all end up sandwiched between To Do lists. But it is great to look back on and see what has been achieved, and what has been on the list so long that it makes me guilty enough to go and do it ASAP. I also keep digital pics of most of the work I have done. Not so much clothes, but definitely dolls and quilts. I also keep a lot of my photos on-line so when I am talking to my friends all over Australia they can have a look at what I have done and put in an order if they see something they like, and tell me what colours they are after. That's how I sort out most of my Christmas presents for the "hard to buy for" friends.
Cheers, Soph.

I'm happiest when I am sewing!
