I am making belts for bridesmaid dresses that will be tied like a tie, but at the waist. The fabric I was given is like a satin, but I am not sure what it is exactly. My questions are: #1 - Would it be best to make the belts on the bias of the fabric?... and #2 - What is the best way to keep it "tied" when it is on the girls? Any advice would be appreciated!! |

For securing it, if you are going to do fittings with the bridesmaids, maybe you could tie it exactly the way they want it, and sew a little snap inside the knot?

I wouldn't cut it on the bias. They won't retain their shape if they are bias cut. I would cut them on the straight of grain and I suggest that you use a light weight interfacing so that when they are tied they won't "flop". It used to be a rather standard thing to interface half a tie (to the fold), now it isn't always done.
