New Orleans needed a good break from the worries of rebuilding our lives and the Saints gave it to us last weekend when they won against the Eagles. All week the area has been celebrating that win and now they are looking forward to the Chicago game. The Gov of Louisiana has declared Friday - Sunday as Black and Gold days. What that means is people wore black and gold all day today to work, school and anywhere else people go and that will last until Sunday. If they win in Chicago, this town will rock until Super bowl Sunday. It's about time.

I guess I'll have to buy more fabric before Sunday and pull the sewing machine back out on my kitchen table so I can save what little finger nails I have left. I'm not very good when it comes to being left in suspense. I sew a little .........watch a little ........ come back and rip a little.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Boo hoo....I'm an Eagles fan. The game before the Saints was with the NY Giants and was very exciting. I was quilting and had to un-do several times. During the Saints-Eagles game I didn't have anything to rip out. The game just wasn't exciting for this Eagles fan. I will be rooting for your Saints though. I plan to have the quilt frame set up in front of the TV all day. Good luck to you - I know what the excitement is like....it was that way around Philly when the Eagles were winning in 2004.

So Suzie....should I be posting here if I'm a Bears Fan???? :bg: :bg: :bg:

When the Bears won the Superbowl, way back in 85, I could tell you the names of the players and what was going on in a game. Now, if you ask me.....well let's just say all I know about Sunday is that the Saints are playing the Bears.

And since my nephew moved to Slidell, my DH had him send him a Saints jersey, which he wore to work yesterday. He hates the Bears and cheers for anyone who plays them (die-hard Packer Fan). He caught lots of flack from his co-workers!:bg: :dave:

They have been showing all of the fans from Louisana who have been arriving by train & plane on the news. Let's just say that you are being well represented!

And let the game begin................

I've been reading the newspaper on the internet and the train that left here yesterday was rockin and when they got to Memphis the train took on two passengers that were giggling and come to find out the passengers from New Orleans found out that they were Bear fans. I don't think that group cared they probably asked them to party with them.

Peggy, Your husband is brave. He was lucky to find a black and gold shirt in slidell. I had to dig into my stash of sweats for the kids for them to have a black sweatshirt to wear to school Friday and I've course they told me Thursday night at 8:00PM they wanted me to embrodiery some Saints things on the back, One of them I put New Olreans Saints Bush # 25. On the other one I had to put "The Duece is on the Loose" and for the little girl in the bunch I just put New Orleans Saints on the front of her shirt. I must say they came out good but my neighbor tried all over the Northshore and Southshore Thursday looking for some for her kids and their was none to be found. No where.

If the Saints win tomorrow Jan this place will be rocking. After the Superbowl, it's Mardi Gras time. This nothing new to us, remember we celebrate everything around here including divorce and funerals (Second Line Jazz Funerals)

LSU won the Sugarbowl this year in New Olreans and if the Saints win I think all the problems of the city will be easier to digest.

Naomi, Isn't the Colts quarterback from New Orleans? LOL He's one of the Manning Boys isn't he? :bg: :bg:

I quit watching football when Jerry Rice left the 49'rs...
(besides that I only watched if my husband turned it on and he doesn't watch football only on the odd occasion.)

You took the words out of my mouth! I was going to offer my "condolences" to Suzie.

Big parties being planned for Chicago. I already know that I have to work that evening. I have asked that they not book a Superbowl party in our party room because we close at 9 and they won't want to leave. Plus, I truly don't like having to deal with a bunch of drunks.

Guess I'll have to look into who the players are a little more closely.:re:

Our motto here in NO has become There's always next year. But we got farther this year then any other year so that's good enough for us.

I'm sorry Peggy and Patsy but I'm with Naomi, I'm pulling for Indy because our beloved Archie Manning (retired Saints quarterback) son, Payton Manning is the quarterback for Indy.

Go COLTS!!!!!!:bg:

Thanks Jan but it takes us losing more than a football game to get our thick skins down. Even a Hurricane named Katrina can't get the people from our area down so this little loss is not the end of the world. "There's always next year". I think they did really good. One thing I must say about the bears is, If they have that good of a team and the fans are true fans why don't they get an indoor stadium instead of making them suffer in that kind of weather to watch a game? It's suppose to be fun, I can't say it's fun sitting on cold bleachers watching a football game for 4 hours in the snow. Maybe I'm missing something here?

Maybe so Jan. I'm not sure why but it doesn't make sense to me. I'm not into suffering, not even for my sewing addiction. :bluesmile

We're proud of our team they brought a lot of good weekends to the people who are struggling to get their lives back to what it was before Aug 29, 2005. A lot of people don't realize it but New Orleans and our area is still struggling to get back to normal if it ever does. Imagine over night your whole city and surrounding area was wiped off the map and your jobs, families, homes and friends weren't there anymore. Like the rug was pulled out from under you. You're not the only one in that place everyone you know is in that place. So you grap onto any little happiness you can and you hang on and make it mean something as long as you can. That's what our Mardi Gras and the Saints did for us last year and this year. It's something in our lives that is coming back to normal that's why I made this post. I didn't mean to make anyone upset with me boasting about the Saints. We are proud of them even if they didn't win, they are like our children, we love them win or lose. They'll be back.

Jan I'm the lucky one to have such a big extended family who loves me so much, and I really can feel the love from each and every one of you.

The only reason I mentioned any thing is I get a lot of flack from people who think Katrina was a long time ago and it's time for us to forget about it and move on. But if everyone could just come and see what's happened here they would be in awe at most of the place is still the same as the day it happened and then they could understand what these people have been through. I know some people are asking for people to do for them and just want a free hand out but there are many people who don't have the means to get back to where they were before the storm. Most of these people owed their houses out right and didn't have flood insurance or enough insurance to cover this kind of loss. The elderly and the poor are the ones that are really bad off. Where I came from is still bad off. Most of these people are homeless forced to live in a Fema trailer that is going to be taken away soon. They don't have the money to rebuild but own a house that is not worth anything, they are selling the property down there for 5 or 10 thousand dollars or can't sell it because they owe a morgage on it and was under insured. In some places flood insurance was not mandatory so they didn't get the insurance.

I'm sorry I'm rambling off about all this maybe I just need to vent and feel safe to vent here. I'm hearing on some of the football boards here that the Bear fans were ugly to some of the Saints fans saying ugly things about us and the storm and there is no need for that kind of behavior. It didn't happen here on SWN and I shouldn't have said a word about any of it here. I'm sorry. I love each and everyone of you, you're just here and I'm venting.

Hey Susie girl, it's all in fun here. Fans rooting for their favorite team. We all understand what an awful thing Katrina was and believe you me, I've seen the same kind of devastation in South Florida with Hurricane Andrew and here in Oklahoma City with the F-5 tornado that took out half of South Oklahoma City. I'm only thankful to my God tonight that our home and my husband and I were spared in that tornado because it came with 1/4 of a mile of our house. We're all here for you Susie and we admire the spirit and the grit you've shown in keeping your family together and making a life for you and them again. As far as the Chicago Bears not having an indoor stadium, they just renovated Soldier Field and the fans there love it. It's called tradition, like Mardi Gras is for New Orleans. The fans in Chicago wouldn't have it any other way. The way of life there is as different as it is out here in Oklahoma City and I wouldn't base my opinion of an entire group of fans on the way a small number of the fans conduct themselves. My DH and I are big college fans and we've travelled quite a bit the last few years with the Oklahoma State Cowboys playing aways games and bowl games and there's always a few stupid people, wherever we go. We've been to Hattiesburg, Houston, San Antonio, etc., and there have always been fans on both sides that get out of hand and act stupid and ugly. However, you're right I think here we can all cheer for our favorite teams and joke with one another without fear of causing uproar or hurt feelings. DH and I root for the Bear when they lose and when they win. I also want to say that Oklahoma City has really enjoyed the loan of the the New Orleans basketball team and they're going to be missed when they return to New Orleans.

I don't know about or follow any athletic team -- college or professional (except our own local looser hockey team) so I guess I don't understand why people get so emotional about just a game (except our own local looser hockey team).
But I understand that any thing to cheer up New Orleans is a good thing. From what I've heard it has been a long hard come back.
And for everyone who has witnessed a disaster remember this is said to be the worst in U. S. History --ever.
While I wish more was done to help others I'm just glad our Susie is doing OK.

Suzie - I hope you didn't take offense to my teasing you about the Saints. I'm actually sorry that they didn't win, because they sure tried hard. I only watched the first half of the game, and they made a strong comeback during that timeframe, so good for them. The fact that they made it that far is a credit to the team. You have a right to love your team and your city!! As for the Bears....well, we have a love hate relationship here for them. As for sitting for 4 hours in an open stadium....not me! The newly remodeled stadium looks like a spaceship landed on the lakefront of Chicago -- it looks dumb!!!!:nc: And I've been to 1 scrimmage game in my life, way back in the late 70's, in the late summer, early fall. That was enough for me -- too long to sit there.

I also have heard negative comments about the New Orleans & Louisiana. Those people need to get a life, or better yet, go visit. The devastion is still there, and you're right in stating that they have a long way to go. I understand that parts of MS are just as bad still.

Chin up -- we are here to support you!

And Naomi --- my DH is right there with you rooting for the Colts! Hmmm....now he has to go find a Colts jersey to wear to work!:bg:

Peggy I didn't take offense to anything anyone on here said. I had just heard about some of the things the bear fans were doing at the game to torment the Saints fans and I was letting off steam and venting to my friends.

They are talking about some of the things that happened and one of them was signs that said, New Orleans thinks Katrina did them in wait till we get throught with them. Others were saying that some of the fans wouldn't let the women pass when they wanted out the isle they were sitting in. Just some nasty things like that and it upset me. Just like you all said you can't blame the whole place for just a few idiots and I guess that's all it was. I tend to wear my feeling on my shoulders lately for some reason I guess maybe I'm not as strong as I want to believe I am. As I said before I'm sorry to venting at you good people and I mean that from my heart.

I am cheering on the Colts because of Payton Manning not because we lost to the Bears. His Dad was a Saint for many many years.

Sometimes people take sports a little to seriously, Susie.
Katrina was serious. A football game? Maybe not so much.
