well... the older two are doing their 1st communion(s) this spring, one boy, one girl, any ideas for clothing?? I think my son is going basic (ie pants with no holes or denim and a clean button down shirt, this is dressing up for the skater boy) and my daughter will want to look like Lady Di at her wedding, should be fun!! Jeanette, I too, am doing that this year. Is it time to start sewing already? My boy likes to wear camo and holey jeans to church . Getting him into a polo shirt with nice jeans is like pulling teeth. I dread this whole first Communion thing. I have Butterick Pattern 6894 (http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/butterick/shop.cgi?s.item.B6894=x&TI='6894'&page=1)that I was planning to use. I was thinking the pants and jacket something Navy or Dark Brown and making an eye catching vest. I loved sewing DD#1's dress. It was a very simple dress with a veil that went to the floor. Gina

Gina that sounds nice, the kids are doing their communion the week after Easter, so a ways to go yet, at our church the camo and holey (holy?) look is pretty popular too, I may have to bribe hime Jeanette

Two sides of the coin - one who can't wait to dress up and would be happy with oh so many different choices - the other who would really rather not bother dressing nicely at all - cos its just not cool for a boy. Maybe there's somebody out there that he admires - rock star, sportsperson, actor, whatever. Find a picture of them in something dressy (if you like it) and see if you can persuade him into something similar. Good luck. Pauline

Oh, does that ever bring back memories for me. My mom made my dress & veil & it was nothing short of beautiful. I felt like a bride walking down that isle. All the boys had on suits. Our church was like a small version of a cathedral & so beautiful. That was ( oh,my gosh ) 56 years ago. There has to be a typo on my birth certificate. If anyone believes that, I have some swamp land to sell. |

Marilyn, What pattern did you use for the Christing gown? I just love that pic of the baby with that gown. Hugs Catherine

Well I finished the dress, a month early, she did not want anything fancy so it is rather simple and does look better on but she does not want to but it on right now. (having a tea party with her brother) http://ca.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jeanettedionne/detail?.dir=a58c&.dnm=d424re2.jpg&.src=ph Now I can work on my outfit without guilt! Jeanette
