Here's some pictures of a cardigan jacket I made. Okay, before you northerners laugh at me because it rarely gets below 30F in Phoenix, the garment is light weight and perfect for those nippy nights and early mornings. We've had a rather mild winter, even by Phoenix standards, but January did bring sub-freezing temps and rain and old cardigan was just a little too worn for the job.
This one is made of sweatshirt fleece which I thought was too thin to be warm, so I put a flannel inside. Not only did it add some weight and shape, but also made it rather cozy and warm.
Sorry I could not get the jacket to hang more attractively on a hanger. Maybe I should invest in a dress form so I can take more appealing photos of my work.

Very nice jacket! Looks like it will do the trick! This is the first year in eons that I've had to put a sweater under my windbreaker here in Phoenix!

Nice jacket.

It doesn't usually get very cold here, either, but lately, it seems I can't get warm. I want to make something similar, but I will take the easy way out, and start with a RTW sweatshirt, and go from there. I prefer the cardigan style, as I hate pulling sweatshirts over my head.
Take care,
Donna

Thanks!
This January was all it's supposed to be...cold and raining. I've been here since 1980 and have experienced the Phoenix weather in all it's glory. It's been quite some time since we've had cold weather. Well, what we Phoenicians would call cold...I can hear my dad laughing now and calling me a spoiled baby.

Hello, Donna!
I thought about doing the RTW sweatshirt, but I did not see any navy or black ones and they were more expensive than the sweatshirt fleece which I bought at fabric.com. I already had the baseball flannel for well over a year. Okay, I don't remember when or where I bought it...but I think it was at one of the sewing expos I attend on occasion. As a matter of fact there is one this Thursday, Friday, Saturday!
Anyway, the jacket fits wonderfully and I was able to make it in about 6 hours, including drafting the pattern. No, I did not make it in one sitting, I took a couple of days.

Looks very cozy and warm, Katherine. Do you just like baseball or are you involved??

Hey, haven't you been missing from SWN for a while?? Doesn't seem I've seen you around much. :nc: Or am I just being senile???

Hi, Lennie!
No, I have not been here in a while. I've been rather busy.
I love baseball to the point of screaming at the TV. I scream and yell at the games, too. My boyfriend likes baseball enough to accompany me to the games. Spring training is very soon and then there's the season starting in April. He thinks I'm a little crazy, but just smiles and shakes his head.

Very nice indeed, one question though, what are the little navy squares and the long rectangle piece on the back?

I trimmed the jacket in denim, including that piece on the back to cinch in the waist a little. The cuffs, binding and decorative squares are all in indigo denim. I like to mix fabrics on my projects and put 5 squares on the back to tie the whole thing together and to "fancy" it up a bit. I did not get too wild with the decoration because I wanted a quick project and I wanted to be able to wear the jacket to work.

Forgive me, fellow sewers, I digress. I love the jacket, but want to thank you for posting the shelves in the picture. I have been wondering if those would work for housing fabric and containers. It's just what I needed to see to determine just what I need for storage. Thanks.

Hi, Sandra!
No problem! I just put those in, too. I was tired of having to try to find places for my growing collection of stuff (where does it all come from?) The best part is that the shelves are adjustable. I also have those plastic storage drawers and bins to keep the fabrics from being furred and dusty. I do not allow the cats in the studio, but that does not stop them from trying. Next project it to buy one of those closet organizers so I can open it without fear of something jumping out at me. And, so I can find stuff I need.
