I'm just hoping it tastes better than it looks! I've baked from scratch before but I guess I didn't read all the ingredients well enough - halfway thru making the batter I realized my bowl was too small! I was glad I remembered where my "industrial" Kitchen Aid mixer was since it has a very large bowl. My problems started when I realized I didn't exactly divide the batter in half - not even close to being half! Then to make matters worse I skimped on filling the 3 pans to the halfway mark so they look quite pathetic (it just didn't seem like there was going to be enough batter if I filled them more) - thank goodness dh was peeking in the oven since the cakes were done 10 minutes sooner because the pans weren't filled correctly and said, "You may want to take these out now". Well, the cake is assembled, frosted and ready to go for tomorrow (family gathering). I ended up making mini cupcakes with the extra batter (due to my un-even dividing). It had started off so well too..............I even melted the chocolate for the second color in the cake without burning it. I'll be making this one again - I'm not going to let some bakery item beat me! - Maureen.

Repeat my mantra; It's all a learning experience. It's all a learning experience. It's all a learning experience. That really helps me when things go weird. Those cakes are very cool looking. My neighbor makes them but I've never tried. Good luck, Lennie |
