Who here celebrates Valentines Day? What are you planning? What is the best romantic gesture you have ever had/made? Or most loving (from kids etc.)?

Don't have to answer all of the above. I just thought it might be a fun thread. And possibly inspirational if your other half happens to be reading over your shoulder.

Well, my loved one was within earshot having just left my side here at the computer.

A mighty groan left his loving lips and could possibly be heard in Oz. Hear it??

Kevin is of the mind that he treats me like a queen all year long and doesn't need a holiday to tell him that it's time to be loving and romantic.

That said, I have to admit that he's one of the most loving, caring, considerate, sweet, thoughtful, helpful, and wonderful husbands any woman could ask for.

So, I bite the bullet and let him grouse and complain since I'm as likely as not to receive flowers on any given day throughout the year. I absolutely will not receive them for Valentine's Day since he'll be damned if he's going to pay 10 times as much for flowers just because it's Valentine's Day.

Valentine's day is near and dear to my heart, since it's the day when DH (then boyfriend) and I first said the L word. I'd like to do something special, but we don't really eat out much (and valentine's day around here might get tricky for getting a reservation anyway). We'll probably make a nice dinner and just relax for the evening. It's a shame it's a Wednesday since that's my late night...any suggestions for quick (and vegetarian!) romantic meals?

Any meal that doesn't take a lot of trouble to prepare and serve is romantic (as long as it's yummy as well). How about just putting out a selection of dips etc. on a picnic blanket in the lounge - and have the fire or a few candles going. Just make it all stuff you can prepare earlier and have all the pretty serving things out and ready to go.

Then all you need to do is stretch out and enjoy.

If you still want some vegetarian recipes I'll flip through my cookbooks - I've got tons but I'm not allowed to use them most of the time because my husbands a meatarian. I have to wait till he's away on a trip and then half the time it seems more trouble than its worth to cook for just myself (the kids aren't terribly fond of veges either - surprise!).

Lennie - your dh is off the hook (with me anyway - not many out there would swap a full time considerate and loving fella for a one time gesture). It's all in fun anyway - I don't think I've had flowers from mine in many a year - but he does help with the housework and plays heaps with the kids.

Since it is Wednesday my sweetie will spend the evening after work with a bunch of wife beaters (he is councilor to the court ordered group).
He might bring home flowers but, like Lennie's, mine tends to do that a lot anyway.
Maybe we will have my favorite char-broiled wings.

:love:I just want to share my last Valentines with you ladies. Mind you my husband is not very romantic, but last year he did something amazing for me. He managed to go behind my back, book a room in a nice Hotel. Waiting me in the room with a jacuzzi was rose petals all over the floor, bed, around the jacuzzi, 1 dozen red roses, Hershey kisses in the shape of a heart on the bed, and spelled I Love You on the night stand. Candles glowing around the room and a bottle of champagne. It was the most romantic thing that has ever happened to me. We have been together for 18 years and this was the first time he ever went all out like that. I'm sure it will take another 18 years before he does it again but at least I did get to experience once LoL.

If mine did something like that I'd be so busy wondering what he did to make him feel so guilty that I wouldn't be able to enjoy it:sick: :nc:

My husband is a lot like Lennie's! Sometimes he makes a grand gesture on Valentine's day though. He is not really into buying flowers that day tho like has been said they are SO much more expensive that day. A few things he has done for me in the past, a heart shaped ruby and diamond necklace, candle light dinner he prepared with all my favorites. Last year had to be the BEST surprise of all though. I am a BIG BIG fan of Toby Keith and he had gone behind my back and got tickets to Toby's concert that was going to be in Minneapolis!!! He arranged a hotel room and for my brother to chauffer us to and from the concert and a really nice dinner before hand. It was extra special because he doesn't like crowds, concerts or Country music! He is sweet all through the year though making things special on the "firsties" we had so long ago when we first were dating.

Tony's last romantic gesture was to bring me flowers and chocolate on the friday I had my tooth out as he was convinced I was putting a brave face on it ( I wasn't it really wasn't that bad!)

or it could have been the lunch at an Italian restaurant the week after overlooking the backs....

He will produce flowers - if he gets roses it is because he likes them best though the mark up puts him off - me I am happy with tulips!

I will make him a yummy dinner - nice cloth, candles, wine - the way to his heart is through his stomach - though I have bought him flowers. One year he came home and I was wearing just my undies and stillettos(and an apron) while cooking dinner - desperately praying that he would walk through the door on his own..
love and kisses, Jan

So Jan, was he alone????

Dorothy, how interesting for your dh to have the perspective he does regarding husbands and wives. It must have an effect on him.

Oh, Addicted, what a lovely evening that must have been.......

And that concert, etc. CQ! How sweet was that?

Kait, it's a special day personally. I think that makes a difference.

I have to say another really sweet thing Kevin does is to remember the day of our first date - every year. We went to lunch at a nearby lake. It was a lunch that lasted 4 hours! :bg:

I'll be lucky to get a card and since it's Wed. it's training at the fire station. I asked if he was going to cancel training for the holiday and his reply, "Why would I do that?" So much for romance. Our anniversary was on a Wed. too this past Jan. 10th. Guess where he was that evening?? We did have a nice day together though.
