I have a Janome My Style 28 which is continually jamming. What it looks like is that when the thread passes over the bobbin it is getting caught on the bit where the notch on the bobbin case meets the stopper. It continues to revolve one turn around and then jams second time around. I have taken everything apart, cleaned it, oiled it and put it back together a couple of times. I have also adjusted the bobbin tension up a bit, down a bit and then put it back where I started because it seems OK. Is there anything else I can do?

If you mean the thread is getting caught on the bobbincase latch (the bobbincase latch snaps into a notch at 9 o'clock if you are looking straight at the shuttle) you are most likely not getting the bobbincase fully inserted and the latch snapping in. This can be caused by a defective bobbin.
If you mean the bobbincase finger which goes into the notch at the top it is a different problem.

Thanks for responding so quickly Tom - I was using the manuals terms for describing the bits but that obviously wasn't quite clear enough. I took a photo of the problem - not very clear (I'm not terribly skilled with macro shots) but hopefully it might help you figure out the bit I'm talking about.

I have a Janome Sew Percise and have had the same catching problem. I did discover though, that the only time it catches there is when the upper thread slips out of the tension pull up lever. It seems to only slip out of the lever when I sew very very heavy material (when I make purses that I am sewing through 8 or 9 layers). As soon as you notice it catching, check your upper thread.

Hope this helps.

Reta - Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I was so convinced it was a problem around the bobbincase I barely checked the upper thread - and didn't notice this problem.

Even when I read your post I didn't really think it could be the issue but went off to check and lo and behold ...

I love this forum!!!!!

BTW About 12 months ago I put my machine in for service to have this same problem fixed - I was told the timing was out of adjustment and they happily charged me $100.
