My Aunt called me and told me they were having a sale at her Walmart in the fabric dept. I drove over and boy am I glad I did. I was able to get fabric for$.25, $.50, and $1.00 a yard. I also purchased stablizer for $.50 yd. I bought it out. I go through alot of it. I know I came home with two huge bags full. I also managed to hide it well from hubby. He says my stash is out of control. You can never have enough. Can you?

You know what they say - what they don't know can't hurt them.

Good bargain shopping!

WOW that is great. I wish our Wal-mart was having a sale like that. Of course my hubby would have a fit lol. A friend of mine heard through the grapevine that some Wal-marts are closing their Fabric Department. I sure hope this is just a rumor and not fact.

The closing of the fabric stores at Walmart have been a hot topic here on this forum. So far mine here hasn't been one of them. My mum heard the same thing about the Vegas one's closing up their craft/fabrics. I think I might make a trip to Wally-world to see if they have any sales at mine! I have a few groceries to get too. (ours is a super walmart) :) Can't blame a girl for looking at least! :)

I hope that they don't close the fabric/craft section of walmart in my town yet. I have mobillity problems and use the walmart scooters. We have Jo Anne's but I haven't been able to go in there in years because my muscles have been too weak for the walking.

Thats great though that you got such great deals! I like to go through the $1 and $2 tables of fabric.. so much fun~

AS the Wal Marts are closing the departments, they are having rush sales like that...and then the department is gone...in about a day. It is fun to get the good prices but I sure hate to see them closing most (or all) of them.

They say that tire and lube is next!!

"They say that tire and lube is next!!"

I hadn't heard that yet Pam but it makes sense. Most people have by now tried their tires and batteries and found them not to be a bargain and changing oil doesn't produce much profit for the space it requires. If profits aren't high enough they will use the space for something else.
Have fun or don't do it, Tom

If tire and lube goes, I won't really have a reason to go in there anymore (fabric is already gone). YIPEE!!! They will have chased off another fine customer. Most times when I went in for an oil change I would spend at least another $100 on fabric and other stuff. I think that what they don't realize is that those are the departments that draw the people in. I often would go in to see what was on the $1 table and end up buying a lot more than fabric. OH well their loss. My money spends just as well at Hobby Lobby and Jiffy Lube.

Don't think for a minute they don't realize what draws people. They will take out what is less profitable and replace it with what is. They know exactly what they are doing.

They are doing a retro fit in alot of their stores, they have alot of complaints about so much merch in the aisles as well as junk....They are targeting the consumer with more money to spend on finer items....Guess that means increase prices and higher quality merch....(maybe).......

I don't know how many hundreds of dollars I've spent in WM while my car was being lubed or when I've ducked in just for a zipper. I realize they don't think these departments are money makers, but believe me, I'd rather shop with three tiny children in WM while my tires or oil are changed, than try to bide my time at Jiffy Lube...well, the good news is that my kids are grown so JL doesn't sound like as much of a nightmare as it once was! I've spent a lot more time/money in those stores because I was there than I care to think..but my local grocery store has most of the home health products I need and we don't buy their clothes...our local grocery has them beat hands down on their grocery pricing so as they close their departments, I find myself needing them less and less. I've set foot in Target a total of 3 times in the last 5 years and I don't miss them, eventhough I used to go there a lot...Wal Mart can just join the crowd.

I guarantee these stores will need the shoppers a lot more than the shoppers need them.

I think it would be nice if someone could open up a sewing store with the prices Wal-mart has. I am on a budget and can't spend a whole lot on fabric. Hobby Lobby and Hancocks are the only other places around here that sells fabric and they are quite high. Anyways thats just my 2 cents lol.

I started sewing because I saw some fabric in Walmart for $1/yd. I figured I could afford to screw up a few yards at those prices.

I upholstered my couch with fabric found at Walmart, I ended up going to about 10 Walmart's before I found all the fabric and spent a few dollars each trip.

Sometimes I only go in to shop for fabric, and end up buying lots of other items.
