Here are a couple pictures of the dress I made a few weeks ago. Actually, I made one for each of my two girls but have only pictures of the younger one. My six year old decided to grow two and a half inches since November when I took her measurements so hers is a little shorter than I would have done but serves me right for taking so long. I'll have to get a picture of them together before they both outgrown them (which should be a month from now). Anyway, I love the dresses, they are from Ottobre magazine. They are very 'little girl' looking, not so grown up as most stuff in the stores are. Most importantly, they love to wear them and are holding up well under all sorts of playtime conditions. Wow Jen, the dress sure is absolutely lovely, but your little girl - she is just the cutest ever! Congrats on making them both so beautiful...

Beautiful! What kind of fabric did you use? Is it a zipper closure in the back? Did it take so long because you were distracted with life, or was it difficult? OK, so I am very curious! I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Theresa

Thanks for the compliments. It has an invisible zipper in the back, now that I'm used to sewing with them I always use them. Way back when, when I first started sewing, I thought they were a little intimidating but now I realize they are even easier than the regular ones and nicer results for most things. No, the pattern was actually very straight forward, I just haven't had a lot of time. After I had pneumonia, it seems that there have been so many things to catch up on (3 kids, Christmas, housework...) and for me to remember to relax and eat more often (I lost a lot of weight) so the days just fly by. oops, didn't finish answering questions. I used a flannel for the print part and a fine corduroy for the under skirt. For the ribbon around the waist I had bought some satin ribbon since I couldn't find a good matching velvet one but didn't use it because the selvage edge of the corduroy just kept catching my eye - it had a nice frayed edge - so used it and I pretty happy with it. We can always use the satin ribbon for the hair. The tights we happened to have already, I just love stripey tights! I should be a kid again. Jen |
