I have a wedding to go to & would like to make my daughters dress. I am looking for a dress pattern that is dressy...or a regular pattern that can be dressed up...or added to It needs to be for an infant. Thanks in advance Karen |

The dress I made for my daughter when she was about 6 months old was a very basic dress pattern - short puff sleeve, gathered skirt onto the bodice and snaps down the back. I amde my own pattern but really easy to find a pattern for I'm sure. Anyway, I dressed it up by using an embroidered cotton fabric and using matching satin to trim (bind) the neck and sleeve edges. I also added a piece of the satin to the bottom edge to look like an underskirt so it just pokes out about 3/4 of an inch or so. My daughter uses it for her dolls now, I'll see if I can find it and post a picture. It was very simple and I made it the night before the wedding. White tights with the ruffle bum saved me from having to make the diaper cover too. Jen |

That would be great if you have a picture. I have just started sewing...and made her a dress from the kwik sewing for baby book. It turned out well... I was thinking about using the same pattern again...but maybe a dressier material & adding some trim..or something to make it more dressy. This McCalls Easy Stitch n Save (http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5353.htm?tab=easy_stitch_n_save&page=2) is so easy and adorable. It includes a pattern for a diaper cover too, in case you want to make one that matches. It's all in the choice of fabrics and trims. For cold weather, it works well with a dressy shirt underneath and acts as a jumper, and in warm weather, you can keep the shoulders bare. I found that most people just went so ga-ga over the baby at weddings--I could have put her in anything. But this outfit makes them eat 'em up.

Cute dress and of course real cute little girl! Most of the dress patterns you will find for that size are about the same style as the one you made. The difference is the fabric, adding some embellisments. Adding some lace to the collar and sleeves, making a apron (for the life of me I can't think of the right name for it) to fit over the dress, an overlay over the bottom part. Just think of what you would like it to look like and go from there.

Thanks!! All of the dressy patterns I've seen have been for "big" girls. But I have been looking around a lot for inspiration. Thanks again for the suggestions Karen |

Ok, I found the dress, please realize it has been in the doll clothes bin for the past 5 and a half years so it is a little wrinkly! It looks much nicer pressed. There was a little matching hair ribbon that I just used scraps of the satin and attached to a bobbypin. Oh, and I also used pearl snaps which I thought at the time would be fancier. It has been washed numerous times and the fabric has held up well. Here are pictures of the front and back/under. http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g97/jenny-o-photos/Odressfront.jpg http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g97/jenny-o-photos/odressbackunder.jpg |
