Hi there, I'm hoping to catch the attention of some of you with large button stashes. I bought a coat, and I love the colour, the shape and the fit, but detest the buttons (seventies swirly brown plastic), so I've cut them off. Now I need to find some buttons to match, and it's proving harder than I thought. The coat is a double-breasted trench with 6 larger buttons (30mm/ 1 1/8 inch) and 4 smaller (approx 1 inch). It is a mustard yellow cotton in a "military" style and is flared and pleated below the waist. I can send a picture to anyone who thinks they may have buttons to match. I would prefer flat buttons rather than some with a shank, as the fabric is not thick. I am happy to consider crazy colours! Thanks for reading. I will obviously pay for the buttons and all postage. If you can post a picture of the coat, so to see the color, I may be able to help.

I second that. Pls post a pic or a more specific idea of what you'd like. It's very likely that I will have something for you.

I just picked up more buttons for my stash, so a picture would be really helpful. You would never know what I can find in my button boxes.
Cheers, Soph.

I make felted wool stained glass coats and vests and needed nice large buttons. I used some old tan ones and made a cover for them from Fema Clay using the colors in the coat. There are so many coices and possibilities with this. Just bake them in the over after you have them covered. The cover came off one of the buttons so I glued it and it has held. |

Very cool idea. Recycle old ones with a brand new face.

Hi everyone, Sorry it took so long to post a pic. I just moved house last Saturday so doing sewing has NOT been a priority. I do need to get this coat sorted out though, so I'll try to let you all see it. It's in my Yahoo Photos album, and I changed the settings so you should be able to see it (hopefully!). http://photos.yahoo.com/freemycows It's in the folder called "coat" and is the only thing there so far, so it shouldn't be hard to find! I would love ideas on colours for the buttons because I'm pretty useless at that sort of thing- except even I could tell the brown was wrong! It's cotton fabric. I hope one of you have some buttons to match - I don't have any friends who can sew so this site is the only place I have to find these things. It's pretty brilliant Katie |

It looks like some 4 hole flat buttons would look okay, probably 1 inch or a little larger. Usually you can find these buttons at any fabric shop. I can't think of any other type of button that would fit the coat. Neat looking coat. Should be able to wear it many places. |

I'd put some 'interesting' buttons on it...like Laurel Burch. I saw some buttons today that would look GREAT on that coat. If only you lived here in the states... I'd also try some ROUND (1/2 round ball type) buttons...in a color that's similar to the coat... We also have buttons made out of polished rock slices here...they'd look interesting on the coat.
