Has anyone used these pens? The package I have has practically no information on it.

I am at the end of a project that I have free motion machine embroidered on a dark fabric (brown). One of the areas is not as I would like it to be. I have in my box of goodies a package of gel pens that I purchased because...... I can't recall. They are intended to use on fabric, but I cannot recall whether they are meant as temporary markers or as permanent lines or whatever on fabric. I have other pens but none of them show up. I have considered using paint or crayons but the fabric is a sweatshirt fabric and synthetic so don't think I could iron crayons into it and would use too much paint for the area I need to highlight. Several of the gel pens do stand out on the brown fleece.

Any information appreciated.

I haven't used the fabric ones - only the paper ones - but I have seen several projects that were made with them - they looked fantastic. My belief is that they are intended to be permanent but wouldn't stand up well to repeated laundering. Why not do a test on something and see?

I use normal gel pens on my dolls all of the time. The best way to check how stable they are is a trial patch. Then iron it on as hot a setting as possible, but use an ironing cloth, because sometimes they can go a bit sticky. Then wash it.... even a handwash will tell you if it is going to stay or not. I then iron the patch again (and have even been naughty and ironed it wet.) If you are still a bit wary, repeat the wash / iron process a couple more times. I had one "expensive" brand gel pen that was no good after two washes, and yet the cheap ones seem to be great. I have even used the glitter and metallic gel pens with success.

What brand are you having success with Soph? I've wanted to do a couple of things for my daughter but I'm such a sceptic I've never been game to try any of them.

The OfficeWorks metallic ones, but the big packs of cheap ones I picked up at either the Reject shop or the Two Dollar Shop.
