I pulled a "Dorothy" (with apologies..... ) AKA doing something stupid when you DO know better but apparently NOT! I'm assembling a quilt top (my first ever, I'm very excited). I'm carefully pressing everything I can and what do I do???? I put my "over the door" ironing board on top of my cutting mat and warped the crap out of it! (My "over the door" board can't go over the door since there are bookcases, etc. in the way.) This is a $50.00 OLFA mat that I luckily got for 1/2 off at a sale at JoAnn's. Well, I was able to salvage 2/3 of it by cutting off a 10" strip with kitchen utility scissors. Go ahead, slap me before I slap myself! Lennie |

Don't feel bad. The day I purchased my first mat my mother wanted to stop and visit a friend on the way home. I left my mat in the truck cab with the window only cracked on a mild 105 degree day. Yep....that baby was warped before I even got it home . And yes, I knew better |

Lennie, Lennie, Lennie... You know the old Elvis saying...... "Somebody does something stupid, that's human. If they don't stop when they see it's wrong, that's a fool." You're human, not a fool. Patty

Okay, Miss Tara, you win! What a waste. My consolation is that this first quilt top is turning out just beautifully~~ so far. Lennie |

lennie I know I've seen stuff somewhere (?here) about fixing warped mats, Now I did fix mine but you may not feel like doing it my way.... I laid it out on my tile floor (don't do this on anything but that or concrete) put a layer of paper over top (the doctors table paper I use for cutting patterns) and I ironed it on LOW till it was all nice and warm, then covered every inch with HEAVY books, it was flat again the next day. It was a fiskers mat if that helps. good luck Jeanette

Thanks, Jeanette, I thought I read here that there is NO way to flatten a mat once it's been warped. It seems logical that it can be straightened the way you say but I just kept thinking that any method would be useless. I'll certainly remember to try it your way. My entire main floor is tile. I fixed one the way Jeanette did, but it was only a little bit warped. Dorothy |

You are all so funny. I think we need to start a thread titled "The most stupid thing I've ever done and knew better" I do things stupid so much everyday that I can't think of just one right off the bat. I'm watching Severe thunderstorms tonight and scared to go to bed. It's suppose to get rough around here in the next few hours. Wouldn't you know my son is moving out tomorrow and it's going to be raining. RatSSSS I thought my husband and I was going to be all alone on the old homestead again. One more day won't hurt. Maybe it'll be over early and he can still get moved. Rahhhh Rahhhh Rahhhh!!!!!!!! I'm really not that excited, I love them next door. I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Hey what about gluing a warped mat to a piece of thin wood - like balsa wood or something. Yes, you'd lose one side but it'd be better than throwing it out.

You are all so funny. I think we need to start a thread titled "The most stupid thing I've ever done and knew better" Marriage comes to mind. And this time of year so does moving from central California to upstate New York. Dorothy |

ROTFLMAO, Dorothy! I was thinking the same thing. This is of course in reference to my first marriage! Pauline, your method might work as a prevention but not as a fixer after the damage has been done. IMO But maybe if the warped mat was heated and then glued immediately......... Hmmm. And Dorothy, fyi, here in sunny old California it is currently sleeting, 34 degrees and incredibly blustery (at least in my neck of the woods.) Lennie |

I warped mine as well and then layed it on our concrete pad out in the hot , hot sun. It's as good as new. |

Lennie here in upstate New York it is 9 degrees and we are expecting about three feet of snow. You'll get no sympathy from me. Dorothy |

Dorothy, It's incredible to see the amount of snow you folks have received! I love the cold weather, rain and snow we get but it never lasts very long or even long enough regarding the drought conditions we're always fighting. Not looking for sympathy at all just didn't want you to be yearning for sunny Ca. when it's not! Lennie |

Jan -- Even I'll drive in 3 or 4 inches (in the daytime)! Around here they only call it an emergency if it is measured in feet -- and several at that. They do tend to close the schools, though, when it looks like the buses might be dangerous. It is not worth it to risk the kids. But, you know, no matter how bad it seems I think of Susie and know we don't have it so bad after all. Unless, of course, the snow is so heavy on the roof it caves in. Dorothy |

Oh YEAH! Me too. Course putting a black felt tip marker in your mouth with the lid off wasn't much of a brainer either..
