Hello, I'm making a skirt using a suede for the first time.
Do I need to zig zag or otherwise finish the edges? Suede doesn't ravel, right?

If it is true suede you should not have to finish the edges to get a good clean edging.

I've worked with both suede and leather.. You don't need to finish the seams at all but, to get the seams to lay flat you can either topstitch or get glue and glue the seam to the body of the garment..If you choose to do that make sure the seams are flat.. I usually keep a mallet and tap the seams.. Actually I pound the seams but if you don't do it often I wouldn't recommend it LOL..

good luck

I keep a marble rolling pin just for these types of applications. It allows you to apply even smooth pressure to press those seams open without "bumpy" results.

that's a great idea!! I have one of those I'll have to give it a try.. Especially when your hemming suede or leather that would work wonderfully..

Be sure if you decided to glue down the seams for a better finish that you use a waterproof glue made for leather, otherwise may not work:coffee2:
