I just finished this jacket which is supposed to be double breasted and I thought it was good in the butt when I was trying it on, but I can't wrap enough of the jacket around my behind to get it centered. I can't make it look double breasted cause when I put all 4 buttons on, they are off to one side. So now I have two button holes sewn in with the two buttons and it looks weird to me. I have more of the buttons, so what can I do? Or I could take the buttons off, but then I have button holes to deal with. I really like the fit of the jacket, but I don't like how the buttons look on the front. Do I need more buttons or what??????

I think if it were me I would move the buttons closer to the edge like if was just single, instead of double breasted, then wear it unbuttoned with a nice blouse under it.

I could except its an outdoor spring jacket, it's quite a heavy denim and I expect I'll need it buttoned up when outside in it since it rains so much here.

nice jacket. If it were me, I think I'd add more buttons-not necessarily button holes, you could stitch the extra buttons to the top of the jacket rather than doing button holes for them.

Lovely job and jacket, Laura. Is the picture as it should be without you in it and you need to move the button off to the left? I was going to suggest applique but see that wouldn't work as the lapels would not match either.

You would have to play with it but what would it be like if you made it appear to need to be buttoned up to the neck and then casually leave the right top side open - leaving the lapels different? You could then keep the left side flipped up or caught in some way at the neck. You would need to add a top button hole and button to the right side indicate that you could button it up if you felt like it. I am not sure it would work but worth a try.

This is as clear as mud with right and left playing with it on myself and then reversing it for the picture, but I think you can get it. I hope so. !!!

Can you add vents to the back, either at the center or on each side seam? (I can't see the back to see if there are seams in the back.)

Lyn's idea might balance things out -- just buttons on top without button holes and if you have the room move the existing buttons closer to the edge.
The vent in the back could really solve the problem if there is a back seam -- or could you put slits in the side seams? That's popular right now.

I was thinking that sometimes there is no center seam but there are princess lines and sometimes they vent suits there too.

No vent at the back. Lyn's idea may work, I'm a little fuzzy on what you mean Nancy, do you want to try to clarify it again? Thanks for some ideas!

Nice job Laura, I'm sorry I don't know what you can do with the jacket, I was going to suggest applique also until I saw the jacket and then relized that won't work. What pattern did you use. I love that pattern. Did you say that was denim?
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

I'll try again to explain re lapels. You said you needed to move buttons over, right? That would change the fall (angle) of the lapels. To hide that changed fall/angle, think of the coat as one that buttons to the neck. Move your button, then pull the right lapel (lower) up to the neck and hook and button or whatever. Leave the other lapel laying as it is now, giving a casual approach, like you just could't be bothered to button it up. Put a button hole at the top of the lapel that is down to make it appear that you could button it up to the neck. This probably is still unclear. Put on the jacket and play with the lapels and it will come to you, I think!!:bolt:

I have often wished that I knew how to draw on the computer. But have never figured it out. Does anyone know a SIMPLE way or program to use that one could cut and past into a document?

The pattern is a Burda 8171, I made it out of a heavy orange denim. I really like the fit of it, but the collar was a challenge. My next one is out of suede and fake fur, this was a test run, so I will know enough to make the hip area a size 16 instead of the 14. Nancy, I think I get it, I will try it out tonight.
