My dd has decided she wants a CA King quilt made in the Rob Peter to Pay Paul design. When I was a the sewing show a few weeks ago, someone was doing "cathedral windows" that looked a lot like hte pattern and seemed very easy but of course I wasn't looking for that at the time. LOL

Does anyone know of any easy way to make this pattern without having to sew the curves? I've done some searching on the web but am having difficulty getting through it all. Even a good book would be great.:bang:

Thanks!
Lyn

I'm not sure if this is quite what you are looking for or not... and this one just happens to be done with denim but I know it could be done with regular materials as well.... its the easiest method I know to get the results you are probably looking for. Hope it helps.

CodyGramma - what a great jean quilt! I have never seen it done this way....but I love it.

I have been saving cowboy fabric for some time now and it would look great in this quilt...I do like the red bandana fabric idea also.

I've bookmarked this site!

About 3 yrs ago I made one of my GS's a king size denim quilt that he wanted. I took 6 1/2" squares & used all his out grown or not fit to wear jeans to make it. At random places I machine embroidered fish or related lures & etc. I sewed the blocks so they would have the frayed edges. I put a backing only on it as being in southwest FL he didn't need it for warmth. It wears like iron. It's been on his bed, floor ,camping & in the back of his truck & still going strong. It was a lot to handle as very heavy but well worth it for him. He still has all the quilts I've made him from the baby quilts on up.

Thanks for the site, that's probably what I'm going to do but I'm thinking I might only order 1 panel first and see if I can duplicate it-I need to make a king size quilt, just the curved pieces could become very expensive. My dd still needs to pick colors.

Miss Lyn I too like this pattern. I had much rather do It the easy way.. Use Fusible web ! It works very well and when quilted, you can't tell It's been made with fusible. I got the book from Amazon for almost nothing. The Book Will be listed "Rob Pete". Also I picked up the pattern on quilter's cache.I love the patterns there they're so true to size.I made a template out of foam board and traced around It onto the smooth side of the fusible web and sewed It down then made a slit In the back of the fusible and turned It right side out and finger pressed It and then applied It to my quilt block. You can use 2 colors to make your quilt for a more dramatic effect or make It scrappy. But you can also go to this web site and order one sheet of pre-printed fusible web ( It's $3.00 a sheet) and you'll get the idea of how to get It going . On Quiltsmart they have a tips section (Quilting 101) and It will give you a general Idea of how to do this. Here's the web site....www.quiltsmart.com
Happy quilting....Cindy Lou

Here's the web Link to that pattern on Quiltsmart. It will give you enough Instructions to know how to do this without breaking the bank. I can't remember how many panels It would take to make a king size quilt ...but It would be very costly ! I did what you're going to do I made my own pattern for fusible web. Good Luck Here's the link

I'm about to start an I spy quilt using the easy cathedral windows method. I'm using a dinner plate for the circles. You cut a circle of fabric for your centers or "window panes" and a solid or solid-like fabric for the outer edges or frames. I'm also using fleece for the batting. You put the fabrics wrong sides together with the fleece on top of one and sew around the circle edges. Cut a small slit along the edge of the printed fabric (it won't show after all the stitching is done) and turn right side out and press. Draw off your squares in the center of each circle for the stitching lines. When all stitched together, you quilt it by sewing down the curved frames. Does that make sense?
This site has directions kind of like I saw on Fons and Porter's show, but think novelty prints in the centers. And also just cutting a slit, not making a button hole for turning.

I think they called the pattern "Orange Peel" on Fons and Porter's show.

I love the denim version! I'll have to add that to my want to make list.

Cindy Lou-thanks for the tips! I'm going to go check out that web site but I definitely like the idea of fusible web!!

Bama, great idea for an I Spy quilt! I love that pattern too but was glad my dd didn't want the added bulk for a king size quilt. I think your I Spy quilt will be great done in the Cathedral Window style!
