The races are over with and she said they would be leaving Florida as soon as they were over and coming on down. YESSSSSSSSSS

She'll be here sometime tomorrow. I can't wait. I'm going over to her EX-SIL's to wait on them tomorrow. She's coming at the right time. Tuesday is Mardi Gras. We probably won't go to the city but every one is off Tuesday so we can barbecue or do something all together.  :bg: :bg: I'm doing a little dance can you see me!!!!! Then when everyone goes back to work her and I can sneak off to the quilt shops and go down to Chalmette and eat some of that good Louisiana food we have down here. There goes my diet this week. :nah:
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Hey Chrys, Flashing!!!! Not me!!!!!!!!! :dave: You must know me pretty good don't you? The newspaper in New Orleans has several live cams on Bourbon Steet and one year my son told me he was on Bourbon Street at such and such time Mardi Gras day and I looked at the cam where he said he was and caught him flashing for beads. I saved the pic and printed it out for him to see. I called him on the phone and told him what I did and he said No way, he didn't believe me so then he came right over to the house and when he saw the pic he told me, "I always couldn't get away with anything as a kid, Now only MY Mother would catch me flashing on Bourbon Street with 20 million people that day in town and she finds me doing something wrong!!!!" :nah:

Laura, I'm going to have fun with Bren this time. I blocked the whole week just for her. No doctors appointments for the kids, no WW meeting, No where but somewhere with Bren.

What is "flashing for beads"? It sounds just naughty enough to be fun.

women pull their shirts up and show what they got, yelling 'throw me some beads mister'....all the Mardi Gras floats have beads ( long strings of usually BIG beads), coins, cups, candy..they throw it out to the crowds lining the streets..(almost forgot moon pies too)

Thanks Judy I wish you could all come with us that would be fun.

Pauline, Chrys forgot coconuts. Zulu carnival organization throws coconuts.

Chrys, you said it wrong. The true NawLins way of saying it is.............."Throw me sumthin Missta!!!!!" or Ms who ever is on the floats. It's fun but sometimes it can get a little rowdy. I wouldn't advise going on Bourbon Street on Mardi Gras day. They might not find you for several weeks if at all. I went several years ago with my family and we like to never got out of there. It was a sea of people and you didn't walk down the street you were pushed down the street literally. You were smashed together like sardines, it was scary. When you looked up on the balcony above your head there was people up there, mostly women showing all they had under their skirts. I was afraid they were going to relieve theirselves on my head. Yuck!!! not for me. I had to throw away my shoes when I got back to the car. It was a mess.

Tomorrow is Mardi Gras Day and if you'd like to see what it's all about on Bourbon Street go to http://www.nola.com/bourbocam/ and click on one of the cams and you can watch in the comfort of your safe homes. Tonight and tomorrow around 2:PM will be the time to watch.

Susie,
A few years ago my SIL was there on Bourbon Street and said it was so crowded she was pushed down onto a curb while trying to leave and wound up with nearly $2000 in dental bills. Thankfully her son was there to help her up before she was stepped on. I think I'd prefer just going to the parties at my BIL's houses.
I hope you and Bren have lots of fun!

It's snowing here too as a matter of fact!

Suzie, Have you known Bren for a long time or did you two get to know each other through this board?

I think it's terrific that N.O. is rebounding so well. Saw a show about St. Bernard's Parish and how difficult things still are for the folks there. So terribly sad.

I'll check out the webcams for sure. It's so interesting to hear about Mardi Gras.

Have a blast! Lennie

She's here and I'm on my way back over there to spend some time with her. My son is boiling crawfish tomorrow and I'm taking Bren to a Mardi gras Parade out here.

Mary I'm sending you some warm wishes maybe that will warm you up some. he he he

More later tonight when I get home. Hugs

Oh Lennie I met Bren here back in 2002. I'll tell you the whole story when I get home tonight.

St Bernard Parish is where I'm from. That parish is where Chalmette is and where I was from. It is still horrible and slow coming back.

Bama

we are not going to New Orleans tomorrow we are going to one of those little country parades out here. It will still be fun but safe. She'll get to meet some of my Grandkids they will all be there too.

Naomi,

those fishy things are crawfish and yes I suck the heads because that is where you get all the juicey good stuff. Bren's SIL is from Canada orginally and she eats Crawfish.

Jan,
I want to make Bren some Mississippi Mud Pie while she's here I hope we stop long enough to make some. Her SIL made some homemade lemon meringue pie tonight and there went my WW, out the door. Oh well there's always next week.

Lennie,

Bren posted on here when she saw I was from South Louisiana if I knew where St Bernard State Park was. I told her yes it was about 6 miles from my house and she told me they stayed at that state park one year when they were traveling to Texas about 10 years before. Then we got to talking about our kids, our Mothers, and all about ourselves and before you knew it we were calling each other on the phone. Last year after the Daytona 500 races her hubby surprised her by bring her down here to see her SIL that lives about 6 miles from me. Then her SIL drove her over to my house and they surprised me. I had a full week of things to do and didn't get to spend much time with her so this year she told me when she'd be here and I wiped my calendar clean for the week so I could spend time with her and her Hubby. Just so happened it fell on Mardi Gras week so she got two bangs for her pop. We are going to the parade tomorrow and then taking all of them to eat in the afternoon.

Bren had a bad migraine headache this morning so we called off the parade. My husband and I waited until noon to go over there when her headache let up. We were over there since noon and had the best time. We just sat around laughing and having fun. Her SIL's pigs got out the pen and Raymond and Randy, my husband and Bren's had to go shoo them back in the pen and fix the pen because her SIL's husband was at work. we laughed so hard all day and had such a nice time. My husband loves them. They are such nice people. Randy and Raymond had lots to talk about, CARS CARS CARS!!!! Randy and Bren rode in my mustang to go out and eat tonight. Tomorrow when everyone is working I'm taking them to Chalmette to see what Katrina did to us .........IN MY RED MUSTANG. I'll get some pics to post on here tomorrow night.

I'm so glad all of you got to see the cams. Believe me it's better to see the cams then to go in person. They are talking about leaving Friday morning but I think we might talk them into one more day. We'll see.

Here we are!!! this is Bren with my three granddaughters. Bren is holding Emily, the baby that was operated on when she was a week old. She's a little piggy now as you can see.

We are having a blast. I took her to the quilt shop and now she is hooked on wanting to quilt. Look out Randy I see where he's going to lose his room he has all his Nascar model cars in for her sewing room. LOL Tomorrow we are off to Chalmette.

Lennie you can find wonderful people on these boards. It's funny because I would have never met Brenda all the way up in Canada if it wouldn't have been for these boards. And all the nice people who made blocks for my quilt I feel like I know each one of you too. Naomi, Jan, Theresa, and Dorothy, I've never meet you but I know I feel a closeness with all our foolishness. Judy and Kath were so kind to me when the storm hit, I'll never forget you all but Mary is the one who brought us all together so I really owe her my great big thanks and send my love for all her hard work she puts into these boards. And the rest of all of you like Bama, Libby, Dragon Lady, Mo, Patsy, Donna, Andrea and Pam and all those who are so kind and wonderful on here, I hope I didn't leave any of the old timers out on here that started out with me on here that I know by name. I'm bad with names I'm sorry but I feel the love from all of you every day. So caring and kind. Pauline and the other newbies, that are new to me you will see how nice it is to be a part of this group. Hugs to everyone. You know I love you all.

By the way, Trinatte and Paige were at their worst when Bren arrived at my sons house. Paige was in the tub and was crying her eyes out and Emily was crying she was tired, and Trinatte was going around pulling the TV plugs out of the DVD player and she was biting a little boy that was there visiting. LOL Brenda was able to see them in rare form. We went in took the pics and left quickly. LOL Trinatte the biter is the one with the smile on her face in the picture. Paige is usually the recipient of her bites but today she had a new target poor little boy. :re:

Thank you Lennie I love people. I'm just a very appreciative person who knows good people when I see them and I'm attracted to them. This site is full of special people.

You know when you go somewhere for the first time with someone new to show your family off you want to make a good impression on them, well my family showed their true side and Brenda got a good dose of how crazy we all are. :nah: :whacky: She met both my sons today my three youngest Granddaughters and one of the oldest grandsons and tomorrow we will go see my oldest son the one that is still in Chalmette. I called him and told him we were coming and he said he'd take them for a boat ride, but the boat won't be ready until late tomorrow evening and we can't stay that long so we will see if that happens but I doubt it. This is his boat he found stuck in the mud after Katrina, he almost didn't evcuate because he wanted to watch the boat didn't sink. He pulled it out the muc and he rebuilt this boat all over again, it's a big shrimp boat like the one you saw in the Forrest Gump movie.

Brenda tried soft shell crab last night when we took them out to eat and I'm going to make her a Cajun yet. She loved them.

Lennie

Funny you should mention that Lennie. A couple of the early posts in this thread had me digging back in the archives to see how things transpired. Dreadful stickybeak that I am.

I was nearly crying several times reading some of the posts to and fro at the time of Katrina. I'm sure many of the writers and readers at the time definitely were teary eyed. If you think you've seen love Lennie - all I can say is - go back and look - you ain't seen nothin yet.

It gave me warm and fuzzy feelings about others on this board going through the threads and what started out as curiousity (just a touch vulgar maybe) turned to concern (the circumstances - even though I knew there was a fairly happy ending) and then pride (at how fantastic everybody was - Susie's strength in adversity and the generosity of others). I hope it doesn't upset anybody that I did go back through them because even though it is a public forum some of the content was quite emotional. :nervous:

BTW - it IS a good photo - mainly because of the subjects - and it strikes me Susie that it might almost be time to update your avatar (I'm always conscious of peoples weight loss) because I can see quite a difference between the you in the photo and the you in your avatar.

Bren's been lurky on here today but she didn't post. I went over there around lunch and brought her lunch, Double chocolate cake with Chocolate mousse inside. AND a white chocolate strawberry short cake. Her and I had a piece of both. We are so bad. Pauline don't fuss at me I told my husband I was going back on WW tomorrow so he better not ask for anything that is off my WW food groups.

Pauline and Lennie, I don't mind you going back to see what was going on back then. If you hadn't you would not have know how nice these people on here really are. The love I felt back then has been none I've ever felt before. My children were amazed how much everyone cared about me. Every chance I got I would get on a computer and try to let everyone know I was okay and what was going on. I think by keeping in touch with everyone on SWN it made me feel like some of my normal life was still here. The rest of my world was upside down but I still had ya'll and that felt good. Warm and Fuzzy as you said Pauline.

I'm back off to see Brenda in a few so I'm off of here. Hugs to all of you.

Oh and me in the avatar I weighed the same as I do now. I'll try to post the orginal pic so you can see more of me then. I was just younger then!!! LOL

Bama,

Bren's husband didn't want to leave but they have to because he has to work on Monday and it's too hard of a drive for them to leave on Saturday pulling their huge trailer home. When they get home it's suppose to be -15C so it's around 5 F to us in the states. We sat out on the porch tonight talking for the longest, it was warm. Today it was in the 70'sF and in the 50'sF tonight. All this week it's going to be in the 70'sF here. I must say I love my grandbabies but they are a handful when they are all together. I'm so glad that the little ones are living close again to each other. The older ones all grew up close to each other and now the little ones will too. I'm sorry to see Bren go I wish we lived closer. We had a blast while she was here.

Susie I would never fuss at anybody about their food choices - except maybe myself. I hate the food police being one of those contrary souls who, the moment I'm told I must do or not do something, immediately want to do the opposite. They do work for some people but I believe more in the positive approach rather than the negative - so I have a skinny photo on my fridge rather than a fat one (curse my dh who asked me who it was!! - and with a tone of admiration no less).

I lost my weight with WW about 6 years ago now - it is a constant issue (I can't really say struggle) that I have to pay attention to. I've let my attention lapse lately and am paying the price. But if it was a nonstop deprivation nobody would do it - who wants their health if you have to be too uptight to enjoy it. What's the saying again "Eat drink and be merry - for tomorrow we will diet".

Suzie
Thank you for posting the picture of you and Bren. It appears to be a good picture of all and is great to see you both looking so happy and so much more real. I don't know where you get the energy to do all you do with family and cooking and baking and all to say nothing of sewing. It makes me more tired to think of it. :dave:

Do you know when I first started to visit this forum I thought you had a son and daughter in law in England named Margo and thought how neat you were both on the board! I even wondered how often you talked off line.:re:

I agree with all that these are wonderful forums. I find myself frequently quoting someone or telling stories I have heard from you to my friends and family. I certainly hear and see more here than I do from my family as we are all so far apart. I never thought that I could form emotions from a computer screen.

So thank you, Suzie, and all the rest of you! :bluewink:

Pauline,

I really don't mind if you did fuss at me someone needs to get onto me once in a while. :bg:  Not really I just like to play with everyone. I've struggled with my weigh all my life and it goes in cycles for 10 years I'm losing and then I get comfortable and get heavy again and then go back to WW and get it down again. It's beginning to get warmer here so I will be able to walk soon. That will help me with this stress I live with daily.

Nancy,

He he he hehe did you think Jan was my daughter? I have three sons and they have all lived here in Louisiana with me all their lives. They have all been married at least once but two of them have been married twice. I wish I could rest one week all week and not go anywhere and just sit and play on the computer and sew all day but it's not possible around here. Especially since I'm out in the country now. It's a trip just to go to the grocery. I think Bren thought I was kidnapping her when we left the quilt shop and headed to my sons house. He lives about 25 miles from the quilt shop I live between the two. I wanted to take her to Chalmette but there wasn't enough time to do everything so we just opted out of going and we went to her SIL's house and spent the day chatting.

When Bren got home she called me this evening and asked if I heard from her SIL and I told her no and she said that her SIL's Dad died this morning and her SIL (she's the one that lives by me) caught a plane out of Louisiana this morning and went to Canada to be with her Mother. This is Bren's ex husbands family but she's still close to the family. Keep the family in your thoughts and prayers everyone.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

:nah: We had bad weather here last night and I was pole sitting. My husband can't stay up past 8:00PM so I keep watch so that the wind doesn't blow us back to Chalmette when the weather gets rough. I normally sleep about 5 hours a night most nights but sometimes I have to recharge my batteries and I get in 8.

After I made the curtain for my back door, Last night I cut out fabric for a fabric swap we have at our quilt shop next month. We have to bring in 300 - 3½ Inch squares of fabric and then we will swap. I don't have a clue to where I'm going to find all that fabric:bg: Ask Bren about my fabric stash. The only bad thing is I have so many unfinished projects I'm afraid to get rid of some of the fabric because I know as soon as I cut it up I'll need more for that project that's unfinished. That's a reason to finish up all my loose ends huh!!!!

I had a wonderful time with Susie and my Sister Judy...I only wish I had more time with them...I am grateful I have a good man who took me to visit them after the race.
I realy enjoyed meeting Susie's grandbabies...her adult children and her husband. there all very nice. little Emily is doing so well ...so healthy looking for all the problems she had in the begining...Susie is a great grandma.
Her Hubby hit it off with us...we had a lot of great laughs together.
The Quilt shop Susie goes to is so assum...all the ladies were so nice to me and were showing me how to do things...I may take up Quilting yet...I even camcorded in there. I would love to live near Susie !!! only problem is I know her and I would go broke together...buying fabric as I see she has a addictive personality like me LOL.
what a great friend she is to have ...how lucky am to have met her.
My Hubby Randy realy likes them all...so you know I will be back there again.
Now I have to get back on my diet as I gained 5 Pounds when I was away... and Susie didn't help with that double choclate and strawberry cake she brought us.
all... My sister Judy fed me the best biscuts and and cinammon rolls...I could not stop eating them...the fried food is so good...It is just as well I don't live down there... I even ate fried soft crab as Susie's Hubby took us out to eat and I tried some real tasty bun ...Susie what is the name of that bun? they fry everything down there even deep fried pickles yum yum.
I'm so tired... I need a week to recouperate...It didn't help to find out my exfather Inlaw passed away who I loved so much...I'm sad today...I wish I could have seen him once more.
well I guess this is a bit long ...so i will think of more to say and post later...I had such a good time ...I just have to get Susie here now!!!

Sorry about your ex-FIL, Brenda. Just because they're ex's doesn't mean you stop caring.

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip. You and Susie are lucky to have found each other as friends.

   Dorothy are you trying to kill me!!!!!!! My arthritis would paralize me in that cold weather. Randy, Bren's husband kept telling us he wanted to stay here........it was going to be -15 when he got home in Ontario. Burrrrrrrr

Bren is being modest, she is as bad as I am, you little devil except she doesn't gain weight eating all that junk like I do. I had 3 pieces of that chocolate cake she's talking about and I bet she did too. She made me eat it too. She twisted my arm and made me eat every bite!!!! The other cake was called a white chocolate strawberry short cake. When I brought it in her sisters house she asked me which one did I want to eat and I told her both of them, a little piece of both and she said Oh yeah that's good, me too. LOL The strawberry one was good but not as good as the chocolate cake. I didn't take any home for Raymond either because I know I would have eaten it myself. The little breads she is talking about is called pistolettes. It's little baby french breads. Crusty on the outside and soft in the inside. They were good Bren. She would have had to stay here another month to eat all the good food they had at that place we went. The corn and shrimp soup was really good too.

I wish you lived close to me too Bren but I would wear you out running the streets with me. Her sister is trying to get her and Randy to retire down here. :bg: That would make my day. Only thing if you move down here you can't work. you have to retire. If you are going to play with me you have to be able to hang in there all day. OKAY??????????

As you can see we had a blast and I was sorry they had to leave. I would go see her but she's either working or she's running to the races with Randy somewhere all over the country.  I can't wait until next year.
