DH bid on and bought me a Singer Featherweight tonight on E-Bay. It is in mint condition, has a lot of the original attachments and the case that is also in good shape. I can hardly wait to get it. I've wanted one for years. :bg:

Or a late birthday present or an early wedding anniversary present or a kiss and make up present as we had somewhat of an --- uhhh shall we say "disagreement" on Saturday afternoon and I refused to talk to him for the rest of the day.

How you enjoy your machine.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

I don't use that tactic very often but Saturday he really, really made me mad and he deserved it. Anyway, he knows I've been wanting one for years. I had the Featherweight that fits in the card table years ago when we lived in New Mexico and he sold it or something when I had made a trip to West Virginia. Anyway, I've always thought of that little machine and how much I loved it and he knew that so he bought me one but this one doesn't have the little table with it. But I don't need the table now as I'll be using the Featherweight to carry to quilt camps, quilt group meetings, etc.

Susan that's only six sewing machines and one little serger!!! LOL As for the lavender quilt, I'm still looking for one more fabric for one of the borders and I'll be ready to put the whole thing together to start quilting it.

She stitches like a little dream. I love her. I hadn't forgotten how to thread one either. The only trick to the threading is the needle goes in with the flat side to the left and then thread right to left. I had forgotten how awkward it is to thread a machine in that direction and the bobbin would counter clockwise. But, it's as pretty as I remember my Featherweight from the 1960s being. My sweet dh couldn't have bought me anything that would make me happier.

Patsy,
if yours has the buttonhole attachment with it, it will make the most beautiful buttonholes in the world.. I still (after 50 years) use mine to make buttonholes when I have the time to make them.. My featherweight has been in my posession 50 years this year.. I bought it used in 1957 from Singer.. It was a rental and I rented it for 3 months and then my rent applied as the down payment... Best $150. I ever spent in all of my 72 years...:coffee2:

Libby my Featherweight doesn't have a buttonhold attachment with it but I'm considering trying to find one for it, if they aren't too expensive. Although my Pfaff 2044 makes the most gorgeous buttonholes of any machine I've sewn on so far.

The buttonhole attachments are still available but they run around $50. There is a cheaper model but it does not hold up well if it ever works. You can find the old original ones at yard sales, etc. but the templates for them are no longer available. So you would want to make sure you also got all of them. Seems like it was 9 total.

You are going to love this little machine. They do sew like a dream. I have the one my mom bought for me back in 1953. It was made in Elizabeth, N. J. on or about 12-12-52. I did an internet search and found a web site with all kinds of information on them. I have all the attachments that go with it too. I don't use it on a daily basis now, just when going to a class. I use my Bernina most of the time. Also have another old singer Golden Touch and Sew that I can't part with.

Enjoy this one!!!!!!!!!! Jacke

Libby there was an additional set of templates available that had 4 or 5 more sizes.

Tom,
Do you know how I should search for a quarter inch foot for Old Faithful?? It seems to me that I am supposed to look for ____ shank but that word will not come to my mind.. I know that some Singers used feet for a slant needle shank, but mine is not slanted.. It may not be possible to find one, but I would love to have one.. Both the Grands could help me with piecing then..

Libby,
Have you tried www.clotilde.com for a 1/4" foot for your featherweight. They have one there, it is a LOW SHANK - Item #101003 $20.98.

I will try to post a link directly to page so you can look at it --http://www.clotilde.com/detail.html?prod_id=100&cat_id=107
This foot is shown on the base of the featherweight machine. If you search the foot section of the catalog, you will also notice a couple of different 1/4" feet, one has an extended guide on it to help stitch a "scant 1/4" the Other Little Foot, has 1/4" on one side and is wider on the other to accomodate the wider feeddogs.

Hope this helps you. Happy Sewing

Libby although the feather weight is a low shank because of the feed dog arrangement not all low shank feet or attachments will work on it. Make sure the 1/4" foot specifies the 221. Clotilde does have it and your local dealer probably does too.
