My youngest daughter and fiance are getting married on the island in Jan 08. They are doing a cruise and have asked everyone to come along. My husband refuses to do the cruise, he says he will hate it (no- we've never been on a cruise) ((His ex and her husband will be there also.)) So, now he thinks he just wants to do the Grand Cayman Island. I have been trying to research it but it's giving me a really big headache. He won't do an all inclusive resort. (No wonder I have a headache!) SO, anyone ever been there? Any tips on where to stay? The cruise ship will be in for the full day and the wedding will happen somewhere on Grand Cayman. You can PM me if you want to.

Sorry I don't know anything about the island - although itsn't it supposed to be a great place for money laundering and offshore accounts? Are you sure you know everything about this fellow? :bg:

Is it the ship your dh is against or the company he'll have to keep?

My future son in law is adorable, definitely a keeper. They decided to get married on a cruise and the Grand Cayman was the place that the cruise stopped at 1/2 way through, so that was their choice. DH - well, I'm not exactly sure why he's being such a stubborn mule, but I think the company may be part of the reason, plus its the 2nd wedding for the daughter, and he's had some issues regarding her situation up to the first wedding and subsequent divorce 9 months later. Can you imagine, he thinks he will be bored on the ship!

We went there for our honeymoon for a week. It was fabulous! The snorkeling and scuba diving can't be beat (well, maybe Australia is better). The weather was wonderful. I got my hair braided (24 braids - we went down the street at a local place, not at the Marriott, where we were staying). My dh got tired of me taking so long to do my hair only to have it "fall" once we walked outside so he got the info of where to go-it was his suprise for me. We walked everywhere and did alot of stuff but there were a couple of things I would have liked to have done but it's pretty pricey down there.
My dh got to sit with some professional football players in the bar the last night we were there - some swanky wedding was going on that weekend.

Common guys -- you know what she is asking --
"Where can I find some hot tropical fabric?"
I have no idea but I'd find out before I got there!!

Last spring my husband and some friends of ours did a cruise (royal carribean) and did the day stop at Grand Caymen, Matt did not think he would like the cruise but loved it!
There is just so much to do on the boat, there are the usual spa things, the food is very good, the larger boats even have small "ice" rinks for skating, there was space to exercise, the shows were great and if you needed down time there was a small library with books to borrow for free. Alcohol is very expensive on board and they don't let you bring your own, most boats offer wine books to purchase, ie the first day of the cruise you can buy X number of bottles of wine for the trip to have with dinner, then you can choose whatever bottle you like from your own list to go with your meal.
Another nice thing is you get to visit several places on most cruises, we went to Cozumel, Grand Caymen, Belize and Costa Maya.
Grand Caymen is very nice but is one of the more expensive islands. Lots of great restuarants and the jewelry shopping is amazing. I, myself, prefer all inclusive when I go to the carribean, it may seem pricier while booking but I think is more economical in the long run, and exception to this is if you do a condo thing and can cook your own breakfast etc. We did this in St Marten a few years ago when we took our kids (we only had 2 at the time) and once before in Antigua for a week.
We have done the all inclusive in Antigua (our honeymoon almost 13 years ago now) and in Mexico just recently (Playa del Carmen, just south of Cancun), actually some of the people in our group (it was for a wedding) transferred over to all inclusive about 2 days into their trip b/c they were spending too much.
Most all inclusives include everything! Alcohol, food, snacks etc. Mealtime is usually predetermined but often overlaps so you won't go hungry, they don't include bottled water to take from the resort but will open a bottle of water for you at the bar.
Most extras ie sailing, diving are pay as you go. Many all inclusive places have lots of entertainment etc. Some will pack you a lunch if you leave the resort but this is becoming less comman.
Have a great trip whatever you decide,
ps take lots of small USA bills and your own sunscreen!

I did the cruise for my 25th wedding anniversary and I pulled my husband along kicking and biting all the way to the ship. Once he got on it was, "When can we book the next one?" When we get off this boat I want you to book one for next year. We did 7 more after that, and the last one we took the whole family, all the kids and most of the grandkids. We had a blast each time we went. If he don't go he will miss out on a great time. The ship is so big you can lose someone for a week and not run into them. The Caymans are somewhat expensive to stay there. The snorkling is fabulous, we snorled with the stingrays, now that Steve died from swimming with them I don't know if I'd go there anymore but it was fun. We went to Cosumel, Grand Caymen and Montego Bay. Had a blast each time we went. All the food you could possible want and entertainment galore, tell hubby to pack his bags and if the ex starts getting to him, he can always coax her to the side of the ship.........:bg: .........opppps,.............splash!!!!! Can she swim? Seriously, it's really fun and once he's on the ship he'll be fine. My grown sons loved it and they didn't want to go either.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

I wish my DH ( and that's not dear) would make a decision about this wedding and if or when or how or what we are doing. His daughter is getting really frustrated with him, as is me (is that proper English?). He won't discuss it any more and I can't bring myself to push much more for a decision. I'm ready to just book myself on the cruise and he can go play in the street. Sorry if I sound frustrated, I'm ready to rip out some hair (not mine)

Is it possible that he wants you to go ahead and book - for the both of you though?

It might be that after all his initial posturing about not wanting to go he is now having second thoughts but is too stubborn to admit it.

I don't know your dh but that is just the sort of thing a lot of men would do.

Maybe it would be worth "threatening" him with that and see what response you got.
