There is a web site that some people in my family are using to help them lose weight. It is WWW.Sparkpeople.com . It is completly free. This site has recipies & exercise tips. You can also join a group & make your own page to count calories & chart your loss. I signed up the other day & then decided I'm not ready yet. There is too much stress at my job right now & I am not adding worrying about my weight to it.
y BIL joined & has lost enough that he doesn't have to take shots for his diabeties. He is now on some kind of inhaler & they said a few more pounds & he will probably go to pills. My sister has lost 12 pounds & they both just started after Christmas just to lose a few pounds before their son's wedding in July. here is a review of the site. http://www.everydiet.org/sparkpeople.htm I have heard so much good about it that I thought I would share for those of you trying to lose.

Thanks Barb for sharing that with us. I need something to get my butt motivated on WW. I go to the meetings and some times what I hear sticks and then I lose it and forget. I belong to WW etools and just don't have time to go there in my stressful life. I need some fresh ideas. I'm stagnate. I'll take a look at your site and let you know if it works for me. I've been on WW again since April of last year and have went to all the meetings except for about 2 and still can't get in the swing. I lost about 20 pounds, it should be more all this time. Since Nov I'm lost 0. I'm stuck and need a push. Maybe this is what I need. I love my leaders but I can't take them home with me. LOL Thanks
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

There are some WW & Tops groups I think. I know my DD & sister both did WW 7 are using some of what they learned there to help them with their weight loss. The biggest thing is you have a support group to keep you motivated. My problem is I can't get motivated to start with.

I know the feeling Laura, I thought if I quit and reset my body maybe I could start back and lose. Well I missed the last three weeks and I gained at least 5 pounds. I'm sick and wishing summer were here also so I can start walking.

I'm going to check out that site.. I am doing well .. I had a check up lfri. a week ago and even my blood pressure had come down .. She said I was doing good with my control of my blood sugar with diet and exercize and when the A1C test came back, it was good and even my cholesterol is down to normal.. And of course the 16 lbs. I had lost was good news also.. I have been counting my carbs very, very carefully and eating a lot of salads, and trying to eat more fruits.. I have always eaten my vegetables so that has not been a problem.. I have cut out cookies and candy.. I do eat a small serving of no sugar added ice cream now and then... TIP.. I bought some of those little dessert dishes (for jello) that only hold a 1/2 cup serving and that is what I put my ice cream in and I eat it very slowly... It really works for me.. I still do NOT have to do that finger pricking every day.. Thank goodness for that! ! !

Hmmm... I seem to remember another thread of which you were the author in which you were talking about the fact that your thyroid was playing up.

Don't be so hard on yourself Laura. If you get the thyroid sorted out it will all probably just fall into place. In the meantime just make lifestyle changes you can live with. One small step at a time is easier to live with.

Thanks Pauline, I needed that. I've been on the meds for almost a month now and starting to feel a bit more normal energy wise that is. Can you tell patience is not my middle name?? I've got a week off coming up shortly and am just waiting impatiently for it to get here so I can do what I want for a while and treat myself all week.

Thanks for the link.. Its a great site..

I am still trying to lose 5kgs to get back to my prepregnancy weight.. Really have a problem there since I got gestational diabetics during the pregnancy.. Guess I gained too much too.. My baby is already 15months old, and I am still nt back at my prepregnancy weight.. Could it be because I am still breastfeeding?? No idea why I cant slim down even though I am breastfeeding.. Sigh..

Anyway, thats a great site for people who have special considerations.. Eg; breastfeeding... ((It refers me to another site; which is for the pregnant and the breastfeeders; other sites do not take these into considerations..))

Thanks!!

I joined SparkPeople about a month ago. I've lost 12 pounds since January, but I have to admit I haven't been following SparkPeople's diet and exercise "plans." The diet is very extreme -- I weigh 155, and I only want to lose 10 pounds, but they recommend I eat between 1400 and 1800 calories per day. 1800 is reasonable, but 1400? I have a hard time believing I would stay healthy with so few calories -- when I work out (and I hope to work up to working out almost every day), I tend to burn about 600 calories. 800 net calories for the day just doesn't seem right to me. For a lot of people, they even recommend as low as 1200 calories. To me, 1200 calories is very low -- such an extreme diet should only be attempted under medical supervision. It's not that I think the whole thing is bad..but I just think it tends to be too extreme for people to maintain for the long term.

Anyway, I find the message boards entertaining, and there are lots of "teams" you can join with people who have similar interests. I haven't used the meal tracker since it's kind of cumbersome to use, and I'm not all that interested in counting calories. I do use their fitness tracker to track my workouts. It does help keep me motivated.

I just joined and a friend of mine is going to sign up. It looks like a nice site. Kind of like a myspace for dieters. :bluewink:

I lost about 25 pounds last year and gained back a few because I was not walking like I did in warmer weather. I was still eating healthier. (I haven't had a french fry in over a year!) I'm back to walking every day now. I was eating 1200 calories a day when I lost the 25 pounds. My doctor said it was okay for my size. I'm 5'3" and started out at 158 pounds. I'm now down to 137.5. According to weight charts, I should weigh 115 pounds. I think that is too low for me. My goal is 125.

Go for it Bama!

I have lost akilo since last week which amazes me - the main reason is filling in that nurtition tracker - helps you to keep a handle on what is going on .

Barb, I want to tell you that around the time I first saw this message, some ladies at work decided to try to have a weight loss challenge. Since I'm one of the people here who really need to lose weight, I joined their challenge and checked out the Spark people site. I joined that site as well.

I like the fact that I can keep track of what I'm eating very easily and it makes me more aware of what I'm eating and how much. That's something I don't do well. I can also keep track of what I do for exercise and there is so little figuring on my part.

Finding others in my state to chat with and others with specific interests or concerns like I have is also nice. I shared the site with the ladies at work and a couple have checked it out as well.

As of May 1, I've lost 7 lbs. If I can manage to continue to lose just 2 lbs a week, I'll do very well and be very happy.
