I'm sewing on crepe for the first time. Any tips for me? Needle, tension, typical pitfalls... |

There are lots of crepes. Wool crepe, silk crepe and polyester crepe come to mind but there may be others. Crepe is a texture, not a fiber and, I think, you would probably treat it as you would the particular fiber. I love it in all forms because it is easy to work with for the most part -- although silk can be tricky -- and is easy to wear. I'd just say make an effort not to stretch it while you are working on it and put a nice finish on the seams. Dorothy |

I just finished a jumper out of wool crepe and I used a Schmetz 89/12 Mictrotex sharp needle and it was smooth and easy. I also serged my seams as the wool crepe did fray very badly but the jumper came out really nice. As Dorothy posted, just make sure you don't pull or tug on the fabric as you are stitching or serging or you will end up with wavy seams. Patsy Patsy

Do not steam crepe. I have some that I have been working on. Poly crepe. It sews up well.

Thanks for the quick responses! I love this board! I started sewing the dress, but now it wants me to create a vent. I don't understand the instructions. Can any one help, or point me to a site that has instructions on creating a vent? |

That is true Ozil. Crepe is also a type of fabric. That's why the English language is sometimes confusing because the same word can have several different definitions and be used in different contexts. Patsy Patsy
