Hi, I would like to know about which Bias direction your supposed to use as there are two different 45 degree diagnol biases! They seem to have different stretch for different fabrics!

Most people place their fabric length wise and measure the 45 from the selvages so that the 45 is also lengthwise rather than crosswise. Is that what you mean? It is harder to figure the 45 using the crosswise grain.

I think either is acceptable, but you may have to take into consideration thread count of the fabric, nap, and print.

Here are a couple of articles about bias cutting which may help.

Honestly, Paul, although you are right that there are two ways to cut a true bias and there are distinct differences in the cross and lengthwise grain, I'm not sure that the direction of the bias strips is as important as that they be consistantly cut in the same direction. I think that most people figure the bias lengthwise because we are geared to cut that way but I'm sure that either direction will work. You just don't see a lot of discussion on this matter.
