Hello everyone, I was thinking of making lap quilts to donate to the Veterans Home in my town and was wondering what would be a good size. I have mostly made baby/toddler quilts but not sure of nice lap size that would be used when they go sit outside. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you...Diana

http://www.qovf.org/ This is the web site for Quilts of Valor. You could call your local veterans hospital or veterans home to find out what they might need. Good luck. Patty

Thank you, I will check out the site. I went to the Veterans home on Sat. for a cpr class and I talked to the receptionist and she said they could really use lap quilts for when they go sit outside when it was nice enough, but nothing about the dimensions. I was thinking if would cover my legs that would be a good size.

Diana I remembered seeing sizes for Lap Quilts in some of my books, so I went back and checked. I guess anything goes, because all 3 books that I checked had different sizes. One was 62 x 86 inches, another was 60 x 60 inches and still another was 52x66 inches. At least this will give a little idea and take it from there. Hope this helps. Jacke |

Thank you it does, I checked the QOV site and the size the states 50x60 to 58x68, so I figure if I keep it in between those sizes I should be good. Diana

Okay, I'm just curious, but doesn't that seem a bit large for a lap quilt? I'd be afraid it would get caught in wheelchair wheels, or drag on the ground?? Of course, since fleece comes in 60" width, it makes sense. My personal thought would be to make them a bit smaller. I intend to (and have bought the material) to make baby blankets for our local women/childrens shelter. I just need to get my machine back and I'm ready to go. Maybe I'll check into some of the local nursing homes to see if they'd be interested and what size. I'll check out the website too and see what the have to say. Peggy

Peggy thats what I thought too, but thats the measurement given on the site, I think I will make one as a trial one and see how it looks, maybe I will end up making a few a little shorter for those in wheelchairs. Diana Diana
