Did anyone stay up for the whole show? I did part of the red carpet thing once we got the kiddies down and lasted about 1/3 of the way through, here's a funny Penelope Cruz landed on the best and worst dressed list on the yahoo picture files, go figure (I liked her dress, not my colour but looked good on her!, 'course everything looks good on her:cool: )
any thoughts on the fashions??

There were heaps of partly nice gowns - most of them had some small problem or another (for my taste) - my favourite was probably Sherry Lansing's dress. I'm not sure how much press it would get but I saw it on the Oscars site.

Nicole Kidman on the other hand - what was she thinking with that neckline detail?

I thought the show was great! It only went till 9:15 here. I watched the whole thing. I didn't think I'd like Ellen DGen as much as I did. She seemed comfortable and casual.

The gowns were wonderful. I thought Helen Mirrin was very elegant. What a figure for an "older" woman. I loved Sherry Lansing's too. It was the one with the red and black, right? And Gwenyth Paltrow was definitely a stunner.

Good show all in all though. I loved the moment with the four producing powerhouses of Hollywood together on the stage. Al Gore was very likable too.

Yes the red and black was the one. I have a real thing for graduated colour changes in fabric (that wasn't maybe so gradual).

I liked Helen Mirren's too Lennie. Does this mean we're getting "older" in our fashion taste. Or just that designers are managing better dresses that flatter without making the wearer look like "mutton". Do you have that phrase "mutton dressed as lamb"? It means ... well you probably get it. :bg:

LOL Pauline! I know what you mean. We have an expression "It's like putting lipstick on a pig." Yep, it's still a pig. Not really the same thing. I think yours has more to do with age. There's got to be a similar expression here. It'll come to me.

I think you're being very generous, girl. If I'm not mistaken I'm a good deal older than you. Aren't you still in your 30's??

Personally at 50 I find it real hard to choose appropriate clothes lot of times. I don't like things tight but I don't want to look matronly either. It's tough to evolve. :bg:

I loved the bodice of Penelope Cruz's dress, the skirt was awful. Just my opinion. I think Nicole Kidman could wear a parachute and look stunning! Ellen DeGeneres was perfect as hostess, I think she relaxed everyone just a bit.

I am just hoping that Helen Mirram had some serious underpinning otherwise it is just NOT FAIR!

I have a parachute but I look like a accident at an air show when I wear it. Is that because Nicole Kidman is 4 foot taller than me?

Nicole does look pretty great in almost everything she wears (although I stick by my neckline ugh.. - rest of the dress was okay) but can you imagine what she looks like with no clothes. Any guys out there nodding your head eagerly - forget it - you'd get pierced by a hipbone or something.

I'd like to make it clear that this is not envy speaking - I'd happily lose a few kilos - wouldn't most of us. However Nicole and oh so many others are just too skinny. We all know that the camera adds pounds. Unfortunately too many of us out here in TVland have been given unrealistic expectations to try and live up to.

Okay I'll get off my high horse now and spend a few hours on the exercise bike.:bg:

You know I always thought that peeing standing up was the one trait I admired about being male but I'd like to add dressing and also hairstyling to make that a short list.

We as women have too many choices which I'm sure many women love but for me it's just difficult. It's like ordering at a Chinese restaurant as opposed to an ultra hip establishment. I'd rather have fewer choices, period!
