Hi: Does anyone have directions to make an over the head hooded towel? I'm not talking about the one that has a hood that you wrap around a baby. I'm looking for one in which I would fold a towel in half, cut a hole in the center and slip over a toddler's head. Would I finish it like a pull on bib? I'm not sure if there is an easy way. Thanks for any advice. Michelle |

There is a really cute one in the Singer book, Quick and Easy Sewing Projects. It has a puppy dog face and ears on the hood. The method here is to mark the center, then mark 5 1/4 inches from either side of center. Slash between the two outer marks, for a 10 1/2 inch slit. That is the neck hole. It also suggests that you fold the towel in 'half', so that the front lower edge is about an inch shorter that the back lower edge(before cutting the neckhole, of course). Add the hood, stitching with right sides together, then topstitch the seam down from the right side. Take care,

I made these for my dd(s) when they were small. I used washcloths for the hood. They are really very simple. I didn't put elastic in the neck like a pull on bib, just bound the edges with seam binding. We took them to my SIL's one year and her teenage daughter liked them so much she asked for one. When I got home I made her one using a large beach towel-left off the hood. I stitched up sleeves and side seams-just made them extra large. |
