Okay, Joann's has some elasticized material on sale this week, and they are selling it by the "inch". How do I measure this to fit? Do I just measure DD's chest measurement, and add for the seam allowance? I know some of you have seen this, and sewn it, but for the life of me I cannot find the thread! The material would make either sundresses or skirts (like broomstick skirts). I have not gone to the store to check it out, thought I'd ask first. Maybe it comes with instructions? Any help or insight would be appreciated! Thank you! Peggy

Walmart has this fabric also and the directions they had with the fabric says to measure the chest, then buy 2-3 inches less for an adult and 4-6 inches less for a child. Add ribbon for straps and there you go. As soon as I can find my serger again (I'm moving) I'm going to whip a few of these up for my dgd-I had to buy all pink patterns as that is her favorite color!

Thank you! I will give it a try. If it is too big, she'll grow into it! We're big into anything purple, dogs, or butterflies.

Just thought I'd give a little thought, I love streachy material, Its my fav to work with. Depending of the streach of the fabric, You'll want to make it some where from 2- 6 inches less. Also veriying with how tight you want the look to be. For broom stick skirts, you can't go wrong with the streachy stuff, If it is too big add a dart or two around the seams and it should fix things right up-- Darts are my favorite thing ever.. Hope this helps.. |
