Well I've been working hard and have the quilt top finished and I'm in the middle of pinning it to start machine quilting. I took some pictures and here is a pic of the finished top (http://www.flickr.com/photos/heyjudee/414112180/in/set-348651/)and the backing (http://www.flickr.com/photos/heyjudee/414112183/in/set-348651/).

Wish me luck in finishing it!

Thanks ladies...I have been stressing out latelly about when I will lhave this finished. It was supposed to be ready for the 21st as that is her retirement date...but they are having a luncheon on the 16th and would like to present it then. But then I lose a weekend to work on it so I am totally freaking out. I had wanted to do a lot of fancy quilting...but it may get a little fancy and a lot of straight line quilting.

I'll definitely post a pic of the final product too.

Judy, what a GORGEOUS quilt. I love how you had the signatures in the flying geese border....very nice!

As usual Judy, you never fail to do beautiful work! I had to show my husband because I knew he would love how you pieced the husky's.

Don't stress out....get done what you can and if it isn't finished, present it as is with the understanding that it is a work in progress; I am sure everyone will be more than understanding..... if not, hand them a spool of thread and a needle :bolt:

Beautiful job

I have a question, did you make the geese then have people sign them or have them sign the fabric first?

Just curious.

WHEW....IT IS FINALLY FINISHED! (can you see me jumping for joy!) And the lunch was move again from Friday to Thursday.

Unfortunately those scheduling the event probably don't understand the time involved in making the quilt. Well you can stand tall. It is done on time, a beautiful tribute. Now bring the tissues for the retiree and enjoy time away from the quilting studio.

Pinecone is right.....you better bring a box of tissues with you as ................... well, you don't want anyone grabbing the quilt to wipe an eye :dave:

I made the geese and had them sign them. But I ironed freezer paper triangles on the back to make it easier to write on. And I made sure the freezer paper was up high enough that they would leave me my seam allowance to sew. I figured that if anyone screwed up, I would just make some more. There are 90 geese around the quilt.

And we went for lunch today but a lot of our group were away sick and due to March break. Tomorrow is a reception with the entire branch so that is when the quilt will be given...so I could have had another night! But I'm glad that I didn't and I'm sitting here and haven't even been near "that" room.

Patty...I have a bet for a bottle of wine with a colleague...She bet my boss will cry and I bet she won't. Now you guys are making me rethink my bet....:re:

Great job Judy, you truly are a master of your craft. Take a break - you deserve it - the speed at which you made that leaves me breathless!

Me too! There were a lot of continuous nights of sewing. I volunteered to make it too...will never do that again with such a short time frame. Good thing that I didn't have a family to take care of as well as sew! And the housekeeping took a beating. :bg:

Oh no...guess I can't hide any more... LOL The Lighthouse gave you away!!! :bg:

Well ladies, I won my bet....she didn't cry. So next week I expect to get a bottle...of red wine! Yahoo!

But I got a big hug when she found out that I had made it. And all the attendees were waiting anxiously to get a peak. As soon as the presentations were over, they all crowded around the table to take a look. Got asked all kinds of questions on how I did it. So I guess it was a hit.
