My name is Debra...I live in Tampabay. I know very little about sewing but I want to learn. I was given a used Singer SM...I believe the Model # is FM-17C. I hope someone could point me in the right direction. I haven't used a SM since High School in WV in 1969.

Hi Deb and welcome. You've come to the right place. Lots of experienced sewers here that are willing to answer most any question you might have regarding sewing. I'm also from West Virginia. What part of W.Va. are you from?

Thanks for the welcome, Patsy. I grew up in Wyoming County in the southern coal fields. After high school I went to Charleston for 3 years until I married my sailor. Where are you from?

Carol, I think I will like it here also. So far I like what I have seen. Now if I could learn how to use this SM.

Lennie

Yes, we have our share of hot weather. We have had a few days of cool weather but then we are back to running the a/c.

I am sure I will like this forum. I want to learn to sew and then maybe I will be able to afford to decorate my house and myself. lol:bg:

Hi Deb. My hometown is in Milton, WV. Between Charleston and Huntington. As you can see, I now live in the middle of the country in Oklahoma City. I lived in West Palm Beach for 20 years before moving to Oklahoma City.

Welcome Deb, This is a great place to come for advice and also a very friendly group.

Beginner Sewing is the best place to go with your basic questions. Have a read through some of the old posts as well for some good tips.

Watch out though, it's easy to spend so much time on this site that you don't get much sewing done.

I would like to thank each of you for making me feel so welcome. Patsy, Lennie, lyn, Carol, PaulineG, temom, and beachgirl. You each have made we feel as though I can learn to do this. So, I will find my way to Beginner Sewing and see if I can find someone who may know something about my SM.

I have a pattern for some casual clothes...I live in Florida and we seldom wear anything else, except beachwear that is. lol I even bought fabric to make myself 3 complete 3 pc sets...tops, crop slacks, and of course shorts. Wish me luck...I know I am going to need it.

PaulineG, I used to live in Melbourne, Florida and always dreamed that one day I would travel to Melbourne, Australia for a wonderful vacation.

Patsy,

I forgot to mention that I have been to your home town many times. It has been many years though since I was there last. I can imagine it has changed a lot since I was last there...probably 1980 or so was the last time I was there.

Is the glass factory still there? I remember going there with my mother when I was in high school. She just about bought the place out...not really but she sure did her part.
