I'm new here, just signed up tonight. I've heard good things about Sew What's New! I'm basically a quilter, and live in NYC. |

Welcome, Janny! This is the friendliest forum, and I'm sure you will feel at home in a jiffy. I'm a newbie at sewing but am about to discover quilting!

Hi Jannie and welcome! be sure to check out our quilting threads too-I believe there is a new block swap starting up if you are into that. We have a great time with our swaps and lots of great help here too!

Hi Janny.... Welcome to SWN..... always room for more quilters! We're taking sign-ups in swaps for a block exchange using a Stuart Davis painting as our inspiration if you're interested. Patty

Thank you ladies. I'm not sure about a block swap, have never done but might like to try it one of these days...I just peeked at the quilting area and didn't see a swap...I'd better look a little harder!! It will take a little time to navigate the site and see what's going on here. There seems to be a wealth of info and advice available! For a little more on an intro, I've starting quilting seriously about 7 years ago. I did a few machine-pieced/hand-quilted quilts before that, but problems with my hand pushed me into machine quilting. Now more recently, the last couple of years, I hadn't done a lot, as my dining room table (only table!) was my sewing table, and I was running all over creation with elderly parents, to doctors, ERs (too many times to count) and all of that. Just didn't have enough time to set everything up to sew only to have to remove it all to eat. Now life has settled down, and I've married off a son and thereby gained a sewing room (!), so I'm back at it again, with a vengeance. Almost overkill, as it's been good therapy to sit and sew. I also just got a new machine, a Pfaff with the IDT, which I'm loving for quilting. I like the ability to use some of the decorative stitches for quilting, something I couldn't do with the walking foot on my old machine. |

OK new friends, I'm a little slow, I saw the Swaps forum, and checked it out. Not sure if there's anything there I can get into right now... Question, how do swaps work? Do we make one block or as many as there are folks participatng? Definitely something I think would be fun down the line. Right now I have a bunch of projects ongoing I want to concentrate on, wow, now that I've got a place and time to sew whenever, my head is crammed full of ideas! |
