This is a little blurb about my cousin's little boy Cole, he is going to Montreal this week for his stem cell transplant, they got a 5/6 match for that just this past week which is pretty amazing. It's been kinda touch and go for the past little bit so I thought I'd share the good news!

Jeanette have they set up a fund for the family anywhere? If they have maybe you can post the information for that fund. I would like to send something to the family. This is going to be hard on them staying in a hotel for 100 days at their expense. No one realizes the expenses until you have to go through it yourself. Please let me know that info, I can't send much but every little bit helps. The family will be in my prayers.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Please let us know what happens with little Cole. What a stressful time.

Does health insurance cover much or all of the procedure? Does it cover much of the parent's expenses? Don't know how it works in Canada.

Take care and good luck to them, Lennie

They do have a fund set up, I can get the info from my sister, she is doing a lot of the fundraising,
All of the medical stuff is covered except for medications when they leave hospital but I think Mark and Jen have decent coverage for prescriptions. Jen is traveling on the life flight plane with Cole and the Children's Hosp ladies auxillary is paying for Mark's flight from Halifax to Montreal. Personal expenses are obviously their responsibility, they are doing pretty well and are fairly upbeat right now,

well... they are in Montreal now, he goes for his lines (ie central lines, large bore IV's that go into larger vessels) tomorrow and starts the chemo this week to knock out the remains of his own immune system before he gets his bone marrow transplant,

If anyone was interested in sending $ (I'm not asking but someone had mentioned it) :

Betty Cox, Postmistress
Cheverie
NS Canada B0N 1G0

His Mum and Dad are Mark and Jen Cox (Betty's the Grammie :bluesmile )

I'm currently making PJ's in Nova Scotia Tarten with snap tops along the arms and shoulders to accomodate IV lines etc.:bg:

We are all very excited b/c the bone marrow match is very good to keep your fingers crossed for us!

Well life can be amazing sometimes, Cole's graft has taken at Day 19, this is incredible, his counts are almost up to where they should be and he has decided eating is the thing to do again!
So this is still very fragile as his immune system has to rebuild (takes 3-5 years) but he is definately on his way (I'm sparing you the medical mumbo jumbo I like so much:re: ).

That is such good news. The parents must be so guardedly happy. Just to see him eat would be a joy.
