I live in southern california and have been sewing for almost a year. I have made pillow cases, bags, and a bathrobe and am finally working on my first skirt: it is a simple orange cotton calf-length skirt that is going to have a drawstring waist. it is taking me so long because i've only had time to work on it a little each night. i love to read vintage sewing books as well as the latest issues of sew news and threads. my favorite book is "sew what! skirts: 16 simple styles you can make with fabulous fabrics". it teaches you how to make a skirt that is customized to your body without patterns. i definitely recommend it for beginners like myself.
thank you to everyone who posts tips and advice. this website is such a wonderful tool for sewing enthusiasts of all levels!
