I live in southern california and have been sewing for almost a year. I have made pillow cases, bags, and a bathrobe and am finally working on my first skirt: it is a simple orange cotton calf-length skirt that is going to have a drawstring waist. it is taking me so long because i've only had time to work on it a little each night. i love to read vintage sewing books as well as the latest issues of sew news and threads. my favorite book is "sew what! skirts: 16 simple styles you can make with fabulous fabrics". it teaches you how to make a skirt that is customized to your body without patterns. i definitely recommend it for beginners like myself. thank you to everyone who posts tips and advice. this website is such a wonderful tool for sewing enthusiasts of all levels!

Hi Sewcal glad you joined us. This site is the best. It's like one big wealth of information on everything from sewing to life in general. And a lot of caring people.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.
