Does anyone know how to make, or where I can find a pattern for those little handkerchief type hats/bonnets for baby and little girls? Are they just handkerchiefs? Or do they have ties? I am having a hard time finding a pattern, and think it must be because I do not have the right name for them... I would think it would be really easy to make, but I don't know what size to make them, etc. I am attaching a picture of one, so you might know what i am referring to... you can't see the side view but it is tied in the back at the bottom.... http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s117/st13031/hat.jpg Thank you for your help! Hi! Thank you for the links! I am looking for a just a simple pattern for the bandana type scarf that is on the little girl in the picture. Not really a bonnet, I shouldn't have used that wording! |

They are headscarfs (http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/patterns/sewingpatterns.pl?patternid=8287) and they look simple enough to make without a pattern if the child is near you and you can measure their head. As shown on the pattern page, they are triangles. I don't have the gift of explaining very well but you probably need only hem/serge the two angled edges, then use bias tape to make the tie across the long straight edge. I'm sure you can do it |

LOL Sorry! I thought that was your lil' one To make those you will measure from above the childs ear to above the other childs ear. This will give you the long line of the triangle for the headscarf. Measure from where you took the first measurement towards the back of the head where you want the point to fall/end. This is your widest length of the scarf. Then divide long line in half. Put a dot there. Measure the out the length measure ment you just took and place a dot that far out and use a straight edge to make a triangle based on this.... let me go doodle a paint up real quick. BRB |

Okay... I must warn you I have horrid paint issues! LOL maybe this will help you picture it though: http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l43/diannaleigh/headscarfbadpic.jpg Hope that helps! And like Tara said, use bias tape or create your own for the ties! You can do it! This is a great learners/beginners project! |

Something else you can do. is take the headbands and hot glue it one. They work better for my girls. But they are also in school and can not tie them for themselves behind their heads. |
