I'm taking DS to take the road test for the drivers test this afternoon. He passed the written test the 1st time he took it 2 1/2 years ago. He's failed the road test twice. :bluesad: He's a good driver when he drives with me, but as soon as he sees the officers that do the testing, he starts ticking (Tourette Syndrome).
He has lost interest in driving since the last time he failed it, but I've had to push him to practice the past few weeks. He graduates high school this year and I can't drive him to college. :bluewink:
So..... PLEASE THINK GOOD THOUGHTS FOR US!!

I'll be thinking of your ds. So understandable that he's nervous.

Sending lots of luck to the East for him today. Let us know how he does.

Thinking good thoughts and crossing fingers, toes etc.

Too late for this time (so hopefully won't be required) but I've had a lot of luck lately with a self hypnosis CD to relax and reduce stress. It's basically a guided session in which you think positive thoughts and give yourself persuasive messages about relaxing etc. It could be modified to work on almost any issue.

If his Tourettes is worse when he is anxious, something like this (you have to practice daily) might be helpful for other things as well. I'm going to try it for my 11yo soon - he has Aspergers and ADHD - both semi related to Tourettes as he also has anxiety issues. I'll need to work on modifying it quite a bit for him as it is geared for a slightly older listener.

Anyway best of luck to your son for his test today.

Hey I failed the driving test 4 times..(and I don't have TS)...I used a stick for all the tests and the inspector didn't like the way I 'shifted'...so I took my Dads auto and got my license....
So tell your son theres LOTS of 'us' out here who can drve well, but the inspectors are really werid....(and they're that way all over the U.S...)

[[[ ]]] He'll do fine...:bg:

Thanks for all the good thoughts. IT WORKED!! He passed it! I don't know who was more relieved, him or me. :bluesmile
The 1st two times he took it we went to the office here in our county. The last officer he got was a cranky woman who complained the whole time about how hot it was. As soon as she walked up to our car she told ds that he better have the air conditioner running before she got in the car. Then she pointed to the other kids waiting to test and told them all they better have their cars cooled down before she got back. She went on and on about being sunburned from her recent trip to the beach and was obviously in a bad mood. He was nervous as soon as she spoke to him.
THIS time we went to a neighboring county where they have a driving range. He didn't have to worry about driving downtown like he did here. The officer was a very nice lady who kept telling him to stay calm and take his time. It made all the difference. She said he did a great job. When it was over he told her she was alot nicer than the lady in our county. :bg:

How wonderful! Yay! I'm so glad for him.

So many factors. It can all make a difference even if he's the best driver in the world.

Hope you're celebrating ~~ maybe a pizza tonight???

He can go get it!

Congratulations to your son from me too. It's not fair to young kids to make them even more nervous, it sounds like the last tester was a very understanding person.

Good idea Lennie! Except he's a vegetarian and doesn't even care for cheese pizza. I did think about sending him to the grocery store. I should have him pick up a big cake. :bg:

My dh went to college without having his Drivers license. He took the bus a lot. Then he met me and I whined until he got his drivers license.

Congrats to Bama's son.

He's very different than most teenagers. I offered him the keys and he said he didn't really want to go anywhere last night. He'd rather be on the computer or watching a movie. I guess I should be glad. I'm sure it will be a different story when my daughter gets her driver's license. DS thinks of driving only as a way to get from here to there. He doesn't think it's fun like most teenagers do.
I went to the grocery store and got him a cheesecake torte. He was still smiling when I got home.

Congrats to your son Bama. I had my permit to drive at 15 and had to renew it at 16 because I didn't want to take my test yet! I didn't get it until I was almost 17 and that was only at the urging of my dear dear brother. He took me behind big stores in abandoned parking lots and taught me how to drive. He also showed me how to whip Donuts in the snow too! (Almost got sighted for a ticket on that night by mr Officer Gene for reckless driving...my brother told him he was teaching me how to get out of losing control of the car on ice!) It is good that he takes driving seriously and that he doesn't want to goof around. Too many teens in this day and age lose their lives because they are not serious enough about it! Congrats again and I will be saying a special prayer for YOU when it is your daughters turn! :)

Donuts in the snow......ahhh.......sounds so innocent. That cop knew exactly what you two were up to! :bg:

Out of 4 kids, 2 girls and 2 boys (they're now 24, 26, 26, 29 ) we've (knock on wood) only had one accident. That was a slow speed roll over witnessed by a friend/CHP. This was dh's son at 17 or so and although he totalled the Nissan truck he got out of it with only a bruised and banged up elbow.

They've all gone through a few cars for various reasons but they've all turned into safe drivers.

I have fond memories of learning to drive with a boy that wanted to be my bf. I was more interested in his little Karman Ghia. That was a lot more fun to drive than the automatic Pontiac my Dad was teaching me in.
