I need to find someone in the Traverse City/Kalkaska Michigan area to sew some pants! I don't mean repair them I mean make some from scratch! I would really like to do this soon, and hope someone can help me.

*Your best bet is to check with your local fabric shops. They usually have a list of seamstresses.*

I agree with the answer from the other forum where you posted. Maybe check your local paper or post an ad there.

I tried. Whats the point of a forum of sew-ers if no one wants to sew?

Well we are a group of sewers who enjoy sewing and talking to each other about our sewing. That is the purpose of this forum. Those of us who wish to sew for others advertise our business in the local papers, phone books, and fabric shops. You can generally find them listed as Tailors or Seamstresses.

Bah I really don't like living in the middle of nowhere sometimes where there are no big towns for hundreds of miles. Theres gotta be some old lady around bored here in the woods.

Well if a little old lady sewing in the woods is what you are looking for, you probably won't find her on the internet:bluewink: . But in all seriousness we are spread out all over the world here. There might be someone in your area willing to do it. Check back in a few days. Give her time to climb out from under the fabric and check the boards. You might want to check out the business posts (http://www.sew-whats-new.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=84)here on this forum to get an idea of what you are gonna be paying for this service while you wait for a response.

You might do well with the people at Professional Association of Custom Clothiers (http://www.paccprofessionals.org/html/index.php?module=pnAddressBook&func=viewAll&authid=9873ece91816d9d48831f2e4ed89b224&sortview=0&catview=2&menuprivate=0&all=0&char=A). They have a listing of members, alpha by state, with contact info. Good luck with your search.

That site is nice having all those listings so easy to find, but they are all downstate in the bigger towns... Oh well. I think I found someone locally who can do anything, up to make wedding dresses from scratch.

Glad to hear you may have found someone.. I love to sew, but it would be pure torture for me to have to sew for someone else.. I love the creativity of choosing fabric and deciding what to make with it, and who gets the gift after its finished.. If I had to do what someone else 'ordered' me to do , then that would be work and I have been retired for almost 8 years now.. I have done my share of working in my lifetime, now its fun, fun, fun for me...

Hooray for Libby, That's exactly how I feel about what I do. If I have to do something then it's not fun anymore it's work, a job and I'm not into working at this time in my life. I'm all out for fun.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

I do sew for a living and I love it! I am so fortunate to be able to do "work" with what I truly enjoy doing. Believe me, no one "orders" me what to do or how to make something. They commission a garment in a certain color and fabric. I still can inject my creative touches into the dress, suit, pants or whatever. That's what makes my clients seek me out. If they did not want something special, they would just buy RTW and not pay my high prices.
Unfortunately for those in rural areas, most of us clothiers do live in the cities.
