Hiya all...i've been lurking for 2 days now trying to see if my question has been asked b4, but apparently it hasn't been, and i have come to the conclusion that my brand new shiny sewing machine is smarter than me, and it seems to be smirking at me. I have searched everywhere to see what i am doing wrong & cannot find out how to thread the top bobbin! I give up lol It is a Singer 7462. Any help on this one? Thank you in advance. CJ |

CJ did you get a manual with your machine? I have several Singer machines (Quantum 3400, Futura CE 100 and Singer Featherweight) but none of them have a "top" bobbin. My Futura and my Quantum have top loading drop in bobbins if that is what you're referring to and on both the Futura and the Quantum the clear plastic cover plate has the threading diagram for the bobbin on them. Hi Patsy, Yes, i have the manual but i'm not really understanding how it "auto feeds" the bobbin. It says to load the spool, then wind in around up top, then put the empty bobbin on the top left. Then hit the foot pedal. It is not loading the bobbin..sheesh... |

cjneath, We all started off where you are so don't be so hard on yourself. I still have problems with things I don't see done in front of me. Read the manual........NOT I can't comprehend some of that garbage. Show me hands on and I'll learn how to fly a plane. Just don't tell me to read the book. LOL There is enough people on this board that we'll have you helping other people in no time. diannab, You are such a nice person to help her like this. I'm so glad you found this site and are a part of our little group. I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Just to let everyone know, Diannab did indeed come thru for me. Yesterday, she went on her webcam & showed me what i was doing wrong & right from the getgo i saw my problem. I had my thread placed on the wrong pole! On my machine (and in the manual..weird that..) it shows the "laying down" thread stick where u start from. When i saw there was another pole (i had to go find mine in the accessory drawer & stick it in) i was off to the races & was able to thread my machine! Whoooohooo I knew it would be something simple that was hindering my progress, but i don't think i would've had ever noticed that little metal hole, as the book didn't mention it hahahaa...then another challenge in threading the needle as it shows how to thread it on auto, couldnt figure that out either, but not a biggie as long as they make magnifying glasses lol...and that will come later as i learn my machine...Annnnnyway ALL my thx to Diannab for her kindness & unselfishness with her time in showing a newbie how much fun sewing can be. All day yesterday i happily sewed my butt off. Tightening up 4 pairs of jeans, & 2 crop pants. Mending of my dhtr's pajamas (made them into shorts, AND cuffed them, tyvm! lol I only had to start over on one leg once haha..too funny. I'm not ready to start on real patterns yet...very intimidating right now, but hey, anythings possible. I hate to admit it, but i am 48 years old & have come into this 'sewing' thang a bit late in the game, but i just know i will master it and have lots of enjoyable hours learning..and knowing u all. Many thx to all of u who helped, and most especially u, Dianna..u'r a real peach! CJ in Austin, TX |

CJ I'm am so sorry that I didn't understand that you were having trouble figuring out how to wind a bobbin on your new machine. Duh! Senior Moments you know. and never think you're too old to learn. Hopefully, I will continue to learn as long as I live and am able to retain some of my sanity. Patsy Patsy

Hi CJ. Yes, this is the best sewing forum on the Web. I have already learned a lot in my short time here. I'm like you - only comfortable at the moment repairing clothes and such. But I know I can learn to do the difficult stuff with practice and the help of the great people here. |
