Hello all! I'm fairly new to sewing, I taught myself how to handsew last summer and have been using it as a way to relax. I've made a few things, which have turned out alright. I've been perfecting my technique by trying different things and seeing how they look. I have recent acquired a sewing machine (which I'm going to post about in the machine sections because I have lots of questions about it) as a dumpster dive. I'm pretty excited about sewing so far, but I can really only do it during breaks from school as school eats my life. I go to school at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst studying physical Anthropology and I live in an apartment out in a nearby town. Thanks! ~Melissa

Welcome! This is a great site for learning. I'm amazed how much I've learned from the people here. They are very friendly, kind, and patient, and have a great sense of humour!

Yay! Thanks temom! I was definitely hoping to learn as it would be nice to have some people to go to (not many people I know sew, or if they do, they are several hours drive away!) ~Melissa

I'm pretty excited about sewing so far, but I can really only do it during breaks from school as school eats my life. I hear you there. DD2 graduated from UNH last year, keep your head in the books and take a mental break to play with your new toy. (Do I sound like a Mom?) piney |

Thanks everyone!! Pine: you totally sound like a mom!! But that's ok, I have to act like a mom to many of my friends, as I seem to have a bit more life experience than them and I'm only 21! I'm gonna have to make them start taking numbers soon! ~Melissa

Bonjour, Allanorah! I started sewing by hand, just like you! Just like you, there is no one around who sews. The Internet - and that site in particular - have proved invaluable. You will love it here. Welcome! Isabelle

I agree, Allanorah. What would we do without the Internet now, I wonder?
