Hi all. I am in love with a few JCrew items from this season and am having a very hard time finding patterns to match / approximate them. I'm an intermediate sewer but have never done drafting before so was hoping someone on here might remember seeing a similar pattern.... I'm happy to work with multiple patterns and combo them... basically I just need the main shape. So here are the things I love: (this first one is totally sold out and for sale for $350 on eBay.... good pictures, but too pricey!) 1) http://item.express.ebay.com/__Womens-Shirts-Tops_NEW-J-Crew-Butterfly-Jacket-Coat-Top-NWT-Size-S-Small-6_W0QQitemZ250099129395QQihZ015QQptdnZWomenQ27sQ20 ShirtsQ2cQ20TopsQQptdiZ590QQcmdZExpressItem 2) http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod83106391&catId=cat170134 3) http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml;jsessionid=MSOKJMLOEU2E0CTFEEHBZNQKM UQROGUG?id=prod83700391&catId=cat170100 Thanks very much! Real cute tops! I especially like the first one! I'm thinking because they are so full, vintage maternity patterns might be helpful? |

All three of those tops could be created from the same basic blouse pattern. I could do it because I have gained the knowledge from the Kwik Sew books. I always suggest those books to anyone who comes on here looking for good patterns for children. The flouncey sleeves and shirt bottoms go on just like a gathered skirt attaches to the bottom of a t-shirt. To get those half sleeves in the second one all you would do would be shorten the sleeve on the shorten lengthen line and adjust the width of the cuff to fit just below your elbow rather than your wrist. A pattern for a yolked nightgown might be the way to go and just shorten it to shirt length. Simplicity 4048 might work for you. Gina

Wow. I can see why you want to recreate your own. Cute and wildly expensive! At least on my budget, that is, lol.

Susan, did you see that New Look pattern: http://simplicity.com/dv1_v4.cfm?design=6660 It's pretty close to the first top. Isabelle

There's also this Mc Call's: http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5324.htm?tab=tops_vests&page=1 As for item 2 and 3, I'm sure I saw a similar design on a pattern company's website, but I can't remember which. I'll come back if I find it again Isabelle

Ooh, Isabelle, I love both of those, especially since they are more fitted at the top. I've been trying to stay away from the pattern catalogs... ses8k, the process will be fun, looking forward to seeing your finished top! Although a jacket, this JMarco is similar http://jmarco.com/product/detail.aspx?section=20&item=CJ1273 mamagoose |
